Police dog shot in swift decision: Highly trained animal got loose, bit neighbor

A Campbell County animal control officer used a shotgun to kill a loose Knoxville police dog pacing in a yard immediately upon his arrival at the scene of where a woman had been bitten, a spokesman said Friday.

"He just got his shotgun and for whatever reason shot it with his shotgun," said Robert Angel, press information officer with the Campbell County Sheriff's Office.

"It did not charge the officer. It was just pacing back and forth in the yard, obviously agitated. Our sergeant on the scene did not order the dog shot."

Elko somehow escaped Thursday afternoon from its kennel at Chadwell's home in the Paradise Cove section of Jacksboro in Campbell County and bit a woman in her 70s, Angel said. The woman was treated and released from a Campbell County hospital.

Most Southern "shelters" kill puppies - why would this be different? Don't believe me? The shelter in Rome Georgia just sent me a list with about 20 puppies to be killed tomorrow if a rescue doesn't step in.
