(in case you don't follow pop culture or haven't heard, comedian and actor Tracy Morgan went on a homophobic rant during a stand-up performance last week and

Well, apparently the former Saturday Night Live and current 30 Rock cast member thought that he could tickle his audience by making a series of anti-gay jokes ranging from how he believes that God would never create gay people, so homosexuality is a choice, to the more severe line about wanting to stab a gay son to death.
This isn't the first time that Morgan has allowed himself to be insensitive; he said in an interview on TNT's Inside the NBA in January that Sarah Palin made "good masturbation material"...of course, we all know that Palin's an incompetent, ignorant crook who thinks she can be our president next year, but let's stay away from this kind of cheap, misogynistic language.
Speaking of Sarah Palin, remember this?
This is apparently why Gabrielle Giffords is now in rehabilitation nearly half a year after being shot!
And what happened after Bill O'Reilly repeatedly used "Tiller the Baby Killer" in his TV show?
And could it be that Morgan is contributing to an atmosphere of hate and division that has led LGBT youth to either take their own lives or have their lives taken away or be assaulted brutally by other bigots? Among them, Matthew Shepard, Tyler Clementi, Gwen Araujo, Chrissy Lee Polis (beaten up in a McDonald's as seen in a viral video), and Ryan Halligan? And how an entire community could alienate the lesbian high schooler Constance McMillen and other "undesirables" (even disabled students too)?
It's bad enough how talk radio hosts have used violent language in a serious tone to rile up their audiences and gain political advocacy. Such as G. Gordon Liddy: "If the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms insists upon a firefight, give them a firefight. Just remember, they're wearing flak jackets and you're better off shooting for the head." Or Glenn Beck: "I'm thinking about killing Michael Moore, and I'm wondering if I could kill him myself, or if I would need to hire somebody to do it." But now we have a famous comedian who thinks it's no big deal talking about killing a gay person in the wake of gay kids who are feeling lonely or have even committed suicide over lacking respect in their communities.
Morgan is going to wear the scars of having poured fuel on the flames of hate when such a situation he joked about happens in real life.
And I think I'll have to stay away from watching 30 Rock for a while.
