What really infuriates Rush about the Thatcher/Palin story is that it undermines the wingnut MO
of just making up facts to fit their political agenda.

From supply side economics (Which even its most famous promoter David Stockman now admits was basically a fraud) to global warming denial, the wingnuts want to mold public opinion with wishful thinking masquerading as facts and history. So Sarah Palin somehow turns real history (Paul Revere's Ride) into a set of pseudo facts that purport to support her version of the 2nd Amendment (which of course was part of a Constitution which came some 14 years after said ride). And somehow Palin and her would-be supporters think that the specifics don't really matter - what matters is if the narrative can be made to support their agenda. And it shocks them when serious people see through the flimflam. That is what happened here.

2. Perhaps the kindest thing that could have happened for the Republican party
would have been the impeachment of Bush/Cheney, nipping that BFEE culture in the bud. It is their sense of entitlement, that their twisted logic prevail regardless of whether it's right or wrong & without healthy give & take debate, that has emboldened them to the point that they have lost all credibility.

Thatcher admired Reagan & she sees that the Republican party isn't anything like it used to be. But does she realize that Reagan was just a puppet for those who carved the way to where we are now?
