Don't let Weiner go down ALONE !!!!
Edited on Thu Jun-09-11 09:22 AM by Liberal Insights

As bad are as things are for Rep. WeIner, there can be a silver lining to this black cloud,
if he forces the Republicans to dump SENATOR VITTER as the price for taking down Anthony !!!
Why not get this message out to all of our friends.
Bombard Weiner's mailbox = http://www.weiner.house.gov/email_anthony.aspx

with the message below:

"Dear Mr. Weiner,
Don't GO DOWN ALONE!
We liberals appreciate everything that you have done to advance the liberal agenda in America, and are saddened to see you being forced out of office.
But Don't GO DOWN ALONE!
If, as we now expect, your resignation becomes inevitable, use every opportunity the media affords you to announce that your resignation will be effective on the same date that Republican Senator Vitter's resignation becomes effective. Surely every reason that makes YOUR resignation from the House necessary, makes HIS resignation from the Senate equally necessary!
Who knows? The GOP may insist that you stay in place until hell freezes over!
"

P.S. I can't GUARANTEE that the above will succeed. But I CAN guarantee that posting objections and excuses here WILL FAIL !
Why not just HUMOR ME and, instead of wasting your time just posting reasons NOT TO COOPERATE,
take the same or LESS time to cut and post the message above at the link I have provided?

1. He can't do that
It would look petty. He would be seen as trying to evade responsibility for his actions. 'Everybody else is doing it . . .' doesn't fly with your parents, let alone with the rest of the nation. If you're going for the equivalence thing, it would be better to take the opposite track and say that: 'Others were forgiven and I believe I am capable of redemption too.'

5. Here we go again!
We liberals are so damned concerned about what others may SAY about us, or how we will "look". We can't do a damned thing unless the whole world APPLAUDS, which means that all we can DO is yak and yak and yak and yak and yak.
And the only liberal we will follow is OURSELF! God forbid that we should ever follow the lead of any OTHER liberal!

And we wonder why the Right is so much BETTER at getting things DONE!

6. Percpetion matters a great deal in politics
We all know it's not just about getting stuff done. How you look is extremely important. Without continual attention to that, you're never going to get anywhere in the first place and won't get anything done for long once you are there. It's not pretty, but there it is.

9. I'm not talking about office-holders, but
I'm not talking about office-holders, who DO have to be careful not to offend eleectors.
I'm talking about US activists. So many Liberals are WIMPS, and "independents" who might join us if we displayed some real CONVICTION and DRIVE stay in limbo because they don't like what the GOP stand for and DON"T KNOW if Dems stand for anything.

12. Weiner's an office-holder. That's who we are talking about
Activists don't have to be as concerned with perception. Hence the OP.

3. Vitter was already re-elected after his scandal
Apparently his constituents don't care.

8. Members have to answer to CONGRESS, not just voters.
Weiner was ELECTED just as legally as VITTER was.
The grounds for dismissing Weiner are the VERY SAME as the grounds for dismissing VITTER,
They have disgreced CONGRESS.
The difference in this case is the guts of the PARTIES.
The GOP has the balls to support their own, while
the DEMS throw their own overboard the moment their is the slightest possibility of scandal.

Look at the way Dan Rather was thrown under the bus, while the Conservatives
give their disgraced politiicans radio and TV shows.

10. I made that suggestion yesterday here:
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=439&topic_id=1259559&mesg_id=1259646

I hope he stays on, as his constituents want, but maybe take a leave until things die down. Then continue the fight he's so good at.

14. Just lie down on your fainting couch with a cold compress
on your fevered brow. You'll feel better in no time. There's nothing inevitable about Weiner's resignation. He should tough it out. In 16 months his constituents will decide whether he stays or goes.

15. What has anybody DONE, as opposed to yakking?
If anybody has a better idea for ACTION than the one I proposed in this thread, then let's hear it.
Otherwise, has anybody followed through and contacted Weinter or others with the msg. I recommended?
