Anyone remember the public option?
How every time we gave in they moved the bar further right until THERE WAS NO PUBLIC OPTION?

Well, we're now being told that talking dirty to adult women and then lying about it NOT UNDER OATH is a reason for an ELECTED representative to resign from Congress. No crime in sight.

And you are all talking as if that would be the end of it.

If we give in on this, THEY WILL MOVE THE BAR AGAIN.

Wake up, I'm begging you. This isn't about Weiner. This isn't about his dick idiocy, they would have hounded him out for a parking ticket.

If you want to be in the moral purity party, they're pouring tea over there. We're Democrats and our boys sin and screw. If his wife wants to leave him, maybe she should. BUT WE AREN'T HIS WIFE. And we're acting as if we are.

He made himself a lightning rod and carefully orchestrated lightning struck in really neat stages of revelation.

They don't want a single Democrat in Congress who speaks out. Toss Anthony and your man is next. If he votes our way and not theirs.

Your prurient prying and cries of Oh, horrors! have led you to look at what you shouldn't have seen. And you're creeped out. Like your sex fantasies wouldn't creep out the rest of us. Who put that before your eyes?

You are letting them gross you into a standard that not one of our heroes could have met.

You are letting THEM decide who shall speak for us.

You are turning us into their marionettes.

Don't.

3. Its not marionettes.
There is a way to see it, but it depends on what you think is inspired.

It is protection.

6. This isn't about sex, it's about lying. And stupidity. And possibly abuse of office.
Edited on Thu Jun-09-11 12:18 AM by pnwmom
If he had had the press conference in the first couple of days, this would be all over now. Instead he chose to lie -- and to blame a right wing conspiracy on his self-inflicted wounds. And then he sent ANOTHER email, asking one of the women to lie FOR him. And he didn't tell Nancy Pelosi what was going on till a couple hours before his last press conference. He's too dumb to represent Democrats in Congress. He's toast.

9. Where are the photos of what he did?
And he's a Rethug. I never said you have to be SMART to be a Rethug.

12. I see. You believe in giving "Rethugs" a pass. That says a lot.
So it's not a crime if there's no photos?

13. That's not what I said. I didn't and wouldn't vote for Vitter.
But his constituents aren't as smart as you and I are. So he's still in office -- even though (maybe because) he's an idiot.

The photos, like it or not, are the reason this will never go away. If there had been an actual photo of VItter in diapers, he would NEVER have been re-elected.

14. I didn't see you campaigning for Senator Vitter's resignation when the news broke.
Instead, you have lots of excuse for him. "His constituents aren't as smart as you and I are." Wow.

Are you stalking me?

Of course he should have resigned. I think the voters who put him back in office are as nutty as he is. But they're Rethugs, so that's nothing new. I expect more from Democrats.

On the other hand, why would I campaign for Vitter's resignation? I LIKE it when Rethugs make fools of themselves. I wanted that episode to drag on as long as possible -- just like the Rethugs now want the Weiner episode to drag on as long as possible.

11. No one put him in a corner and FORCED him to email, tweet, and text
hundreds of photos and messages that anyone with half a brain would realize should NOT be made public.

My children learned this in middle school -- once you send an email, you lose all control of the consequences. How can he be a smart, 49 year old man and not know what any 12 year old should know?

21. I wouldn't buy the butter yet.
Self-righteousness is dandy if Mitt Romney is your candidate. Expecting perfection of these ambitious, Type A tornadoes is lunacy.

AND IT IS IRRELEVANT. You have allowed yourself to be distracted by smoke and mirrors. And dumb cell phone photos that were not sent to you. You really need to examine why you are even looking at them.

Not one thing he did had anything to do with legislation or a floor vote. It was slap on the wrist crap and you are allowing a Republican blastfax to be your moral guide. FOR SHAME.

So yeah, I'm really freaking pissed off at him. But he's not my rep, so ultimately my opinion doesn't really matter, it's up to his constituents, not the rest of us, and not the press.

20. Personally, I'm still more pissed off about Obama saying the public option was killable...
in his press conferences than I am about anything Weiner said or did.

Weiner's tweet-sex life isn't policy that he campaigned on (or which partially affected my vote... not that I am able to vote for him). Obama's Public Option was policy... in fact it was the single most defining difference between his campaign policy and Clinton's.

Personally, I'd vote for Weiner again in a second. Obama I'm still having second thoughts about.

Hmm... maybe I'll kill two birds with one stone, and write in Weiner for president in 2012... ;)

28. Speaking of the public option and Weiner
"Weiner: If Left Can't Pass Even A Modest Public Option, Nobody Will Take Them Seriously"

http://tpmdc.talkingpointsmemo.com/2009/09/weiner-if-left-cant-pass-even-a-modest-public-option-nobody-will-take-them-seriously.php

Well, Weiner ofcourse went ahead and voted for healthcare reform anyway which didn't have a public option but easily could have since they used reconciliation.
