4. That's really scary
I can see why primitive people might have thought the gods were an angry bunch. It's hard not to skirt around the idea now, even if only in passing thought.

6. The gods aren't an angry bunch?
C'mon! Who am I gonna believe, you or my lyin' eyes?

Clearly, this whole thing could have been avoided if only enough virgins had been sacrificed!1!!

11. I always thought that the origins of the Hebrew God
who became the Christian God was a volcano. The references in the Bible to burning bushes, pillars of fire, the raining down of sulfur and ashes and many other references hint to that like Mt. Sinai, where the burning bush was and that Abraham had to sacrifice his son on a mountain. Also, about 1500 BCE the volcano of the island of Thera erupted and the eastern Mediterranean countries around it were affected by it with ashes and Tsunamis and maybe those inhabitants might have even seen it erupting on the coastal areas of the Middle East because it was even larger than the eruption of Krakatoa in relatively modern times. It seems that the God of Abraham became dominant in that area of Canaan in the centuries after the eruption.

12. The area I lived in in Chile had three volcanoes, dormant
Edited on Wed Jun-08-11 10:57 AM by Cleita
of course, in view, but one of them was smoking. It was like there was a chimney in the middle of it. It has never erupted though in my knowledge. When I was a kid my dad had an atlas that showed landmarks. I counted 24 volcanoes along the length of Chile once. I don't know how accurate it was but that's a lot of volcanoes. I hope there isn't a chain reaction. We also have a similar chain here in the USA. When my DH and I traveled through the west I spotted all the volcanoes from Mt. Shasta in California to Mt. Baker in Washington State. Mt. Helen's lies in the midst. The Cascade mountains are a chain of volcanoes.
