Romney tops Obama by 4 percent in new poll
Source: Raw Story
By Agence France-Presse

WASHINGTON (AFP) – Former Massachusetts governor Mitt Romney pulled ahead of President Barack Obama in a poll of registered voters Tuesday, as public disapproval over the faltering US economy grows.

By 49 to 46 percent, Romney outpolled Obama in a head-to-head election, according to the survey by The Washington Post and ABC News.

That margin was within the 3.5 percent sampling error, but nevertheless suggests that the incumbent president could be vulnerable as he tries to win reelection next year.

Obama led all other potential Republican challengers in the survey, coming out on top in hypothetical head-to-head showdowns against Newt Gingrich, Tim Pawlenty, Michele Bachmann, Jon Huntsman and Sarah Palin.

3. *ugh*
:puke:

Thankfully, a poll like that is pretty meaningless right now, particularly since he hasn't been crowned the GOP nominee......yet. I imagine that this poll is meant to "pile on" with all of the rest of the bad economic news and it's negative effect on President Obama.

7. Shame that Romney won't win the primaries. He's the Mike Castle of the National GOP party
Probably the best qualified of all the people running for office and just enough moderate stances in areas that could have appeal to moderates and independant voters.

But the guy has to get thru the primaries first where any far-right GOP voter would cringe before supporting him. Heck it was only a few days ago that the owner of Free Republic stated he would shut down FR first before support either Rommey or Guilaini.

And I use Mike Castle's name because that's what happened to him in Delaware. The guy would have won the DE Senate Race general election in a landslide against any candidate for the dems (except Beau Biden but he still would have won that one in a close race). But he had to get past the closed primaries first and his campaign was doomed and the democrats keep the senate seat.

9. If the economy tanks, Obama is in trouble.
I read the statement above in a posting on DU sometime in the last few days.

It has stuck with me.

I fear it may be true, that if the economy truly tanks and goes into recession, then any sitting President loses.

I'd be very happy to hear a contrary argument. Is there evidence in modern times that an incumbent President can survive if the country is in recession in an election year?
