Catholic Charities in Joliet, Peoria opt out of adoptions
By Manya A. Brachear, Tribune reporter
6:56 p.m. CDT, June 3, 2011

Catholic Charities of Peoria and Joliet have informed the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services that they will no longer license families who applied to become foster care or adoptive parents because the state's civil unions law went into effect Tuesday.

"It is the religious practice of Catholic Charities not to place children with unmarried cohabiting couples, whether same sex or opposite sex," wrote Glenn Van Cura, executive director of Catholic Charities of Joliet, in a letter to DCFS sent this week.

In a separate letter, Tricia C. Fox, chief executive officer for Catholic Charities of Peoria, added that the suspension is temporary. Licensing could resume if language is added to the civil union law allowing religious agencies to refer applicants to one of the state's 45 other child welfare agencies if they don't fit Catholic Charities' criteria, Fox said.

Way to follow Jesus' teachings! It's much more important to make sure those poor kids aren't exposed to any improper lifestyles. The Church leaves that part up to the pedophile priests.

2. good.
The fewer people brought up in that repressive environment, the better.

Please note: I am equally supportive of all religious households being expempted from licensing.

3. Ironic, considering the history of the Catholic Church...it's abuse of Native American children....
in it's government church schools -- every kind of abuse from murder and beatings

to sexual abuse --

and it's worldwide abouse of children by it's pedophile priests!!

Rather it is hetereosexual males who sexually abuse children --

In fact, hetereosexual males are 100X more like to sexually abuse children than

homosexual males!!

And, males are our sexual abusers of children -- that's even confirmed by the rightwing

women's group -- Research on the Family --

11. Aside from Kinsey, bisexuality seems to be a taboo subject all on it's own -- !!
Edited on Sun Jun-05-11 02:31 AM by defendandprotect
but, as a hetereosexual, I'd say it explains a few of the mysteries of life!!

IMO, acknowledging anything like bisexuality would be like resurrecting the

term "mulatto" -- it would make everyone suspect!!

No -- that would never do -- !!!

I PM'D YOU THE FULL QUOTE FROM THE BOOK -- NOT ALLOWED TO QUOTE IT HERE AT DU --

AND THERE'S NO LINK --

From "same-sex -- marriage in the United States
Focus on the Facts" -- Sean Cahill, PH.D
Lexington Books -- 2004
See: Footnote

A 1998 Study in the Journal of the American Medical Association found that 90% of pedophiles are men, and 95% of these individuals are hetereosexual.

Also : The right-wing "Family Research Council" notes/confirms findings that "almost all child sexual abuse is committed by men."

That's the way it goes -- !!

4. So, it's the Catholic Church's position...
that's its better for a child to grow up in an orphanage, than to be raised in a loving and supportive home. Good thing we cleared that up.

9. to all
My bro and I were both adopted thru Catholic Charities. My mother couldn't have children.

Please don't slam the entire Catholic Church because of this.

My parents were the most awesome parents. My childhood was ideal. My parents were very loving and I felt safe every day with them.

I don't agree with everything the Church teaches.....but this hits home with me....there are some good things....and if someone posts about the pedophilic priests I'm gonna puke.
