Saveourmedicare.org site LIVE!
This is a project of the WA State Democratic Party. The signup page assumes an in-state address. If you are active in your state party organization, please encourage them to duplicate this effort.

Republicans are sacrificing Medicare and the middle and lower classes for tax cuts for the wealthiest Americans.

That's why everyday Americans disapprove of the Republican budget plan and its policies that will end Medicare as we know it. Republicans are paying the price for their policies -- they're losing elections and facing the backlash.

We will use this site to keep the momentum going and build grassroots support against the Republican budget plan and its destructive policies.

Join us in fighting the attack on Medicare at http://www.saveourmedicare.org! On this site you can:

Sincerely,

Dwight Pelz
Washington State Democrats Chair

2. Not yet--I belong to a local coalition that is trying to get national organizations to take it on
Groups like PNHP are taking a very wonky approach, stating that Medicare has problems which can only be solved by true a true national universal health care system that could control all health care costs. Perfectly true, but I wish they would look at the politics of it more closely.

Many people (in addition to the usual crowd of already involved activists) turned up at town halls to yell at Republicans because they are afraid of losing something they already have. This is a far, far stronger motivator than coming out in favor of something which has a whole bunch of details that will need to be worked out.

You can see the same dynamic at work in Wisconsin--many first-time activists came out because of the threat of losing something they thought they had--collective bargaining. The Employee Free Choice Act never got anywhere near the response.

What activists should be doing is going to where people are, prepared with answers for those who will inevitably ask "Now what?"
