3. Well he was also the person who brought a lot of casting, electroplating, and other innovations in

metallurgy to America.

On one hand the most fascinating thing about him are the things that aren't common knowledge.

On the other, most of the "common knowledge" about him is pretty much baloney.

6. He rode from town to town yelling, "The dentists are coming! The dentists are coming!".
Uh oh!

7. He was. He also practiced some dentistry early in his life.
Remember, his barber was also a dentist back then.

11. I mentioned this in a reply post
Apparently, he was quite good at dentistry (particularly restoration/replacement) as well as inovative. I hadn't known this till I read up on him today. I had read reference to it in one of the Kent Family Chronicles books (I think it was "The Bastard") but I thought that was an embelishment for the story.

12. The Smithsonian in DC has several sets that he'd made.
Considering the lack of technology, they're pretty good.

He wasn't "merely" a dentist, he was a great dental technician. He is one of my role models.

13. I hadn't known anything about this till today
What a shame that it's been kind of hidden about him. Apparently, he was very innovative in the materials and tools he used and even orthodontics and forensic dental identification. I'd always thought he was just a renowned metal worker... mostly silver services and copper engravings.

Interesting stuff. Now I'm going to have to do a photo search for what's in the Smithonian.
