Wounded Arizona Deputy Fired Over Press Statements
SNIP - PHOENIX (AP) — An Arizona sheriff's deputy shot during a confrontation with marijuana smugglers in April has been fired because of statements he made to a weekly newspaper.

Pinal County deputy Louie Puroll came under scrutiny after he was slightly wounded in what he described as an ambush in the Arizona desert.

1. It's a shame he didn't take his boss, Paul Babeu, with him. n/t

2. He made Babeu look bad. When it cfomes to our sheriffs, that's the ONLY
fireable offense.

Let a mentally disabled prisoner die of dehydration? No problem. Let a diabetic woman sieze to death? Sure, all in a day's work.

But make me look bad? You'll never work in this town again.

4. Adjoining counties; Babeu's a Bull Arpaio wannabe.
I grew up in Pinal (Babeu's) County.

If you're on the East Coast, you might not know that Arizona counties are HUGE--but the politics don't vary a great deal.

5. No.
Arpaio is Maricopa County (Phoenix metro area).

Puroll is in Babeu, er, Pinal County, southeast and adjacent to Maricopa County.

6. They both sound like despots
I hope the DOJ goes after Joe. I've seen shows about what the guy brags about doing to convicted people.

7. It's so bad in Pinal County that the Arizona Supreme Court has
already stepped in, and if they've already done that, then you KNOW it's bad here.

Sheriff Babeu's baby brother Shaun ran for Justice of the Peace, and won. But the state supreme court has ruled that Judge Shaun can't sit in judgment on cases brought from the sheriff's department because it would be a conflict of interest. That means Shaun will get paid $100K a year for doing maybe 20% of his job, while the other 80% is done by "pro tempore" judges who will also be paid.

Nice work, if you can get it.

Maybe that's why my property's assessed valuation is 50% what it was three years ago, but my property taxes are 50% higher. I hate to think what they'll be next year.. . ..
