If you're interested in race issues, this movie is a must see.
Just came across a trailer for "The Help" which is set in the 1950s, and though it's fiction, it hits the same nerves. This looks promising because it's a comedy of sorts. Very different.

1. The book was fantastic!
And it looks like the movie will be true to the book. The part of the preview where Miss Hilly sits up in bed and screams... yeah, I know what she is screaming about!

3. It was kind of cute seeing O.P.s daughter playing the part of the racist.
She did it justice. And that Emma Stone, she does seem to have a tremendous range. No flash in the pan, that one.

4. Not believable
The hairstyles, the clothing -- all wrong. As everyone remembers, the '50s were in black and white. Color wasn't invented until 1965.

5. Oh, didn't you read the study?
The invention of color t.v.s is what did racism in.

7. The book was very good but I heard that black readers weren't impressed.
It was written by a white woman but to me, (white guy) it seemed very well researched, genuine and effective.
It is an eye opener for people like me because it puts me into a personal world that I haven't experienced myself.
I have heard that it does not have the same effect on readers that grew up in black communities similar to those described in the book.
