100 fans arrested in Barcelona 'celebration' riots after Champions League victory
More than 100 football fans were arrested in Barcelona overnight as delirious celebrations to mark victory over Manchester United spilled over into rioting that left 85 police officers injured.

As the final whistle was blown in the Champions League final 500 miles away in Rome, around 100,000 Barcelona supporters rushed outside to party – many danced down Las Ramblas gathering around the Canaletas fountain.

Until midnight the Catalans happily toasted a record-breaking domestic season and comfortable defeat of the European champions, but the revelry soured in the early hours of this morning as youths clashed with armed police in the centre of the city.

Officers fired into the air and charged at the crowd with batons and riot shields as they attempted to shore up metal barricades separating the young men from shops and bars.

The match yesterday was played at Wembley in London. The 2009 match was played in Rome.

Barca won 2-1 in 2009, and 3-1 yesterday.

Wonder how the Times got this so wrong??

5. Barca got a big welcome today

and the celebration got out of hand as happens in these cases. There were over 100 people treated for mostly light injuries, nothing serious.

As for the match yesterday in London, Barca proved that it is the finest football team anywhere at this time. The English must still be in shock.

BARCELONA, Spain (AP) — Street parties in Barcelona celebrating the victory of the city's soccer team in the Champions League final turned violent early Sunday and at least 18 people were hospitalized, according to local media reports.

Police said more than 80 people were arrested after revelers attacked officers with bottles, flares and other objects, and destroyed park benches and bus stops. The scuffles broke out hours after Barcelona beat Manchester United 3-1 at Wembley Stadium in England on Saturday night. About 50,000 people flooded the streets of Barcelona to celebrate.

A police officer was among those hospitalized. AP photographs show plainclothes police officers, who were wearing Barcelona jerseys to blend in with the crowds, making arrests. More than 100 other people were hurt, but they didn't require hospitalization and were treated at the scene by paramedics for cuts and bruises.

7. Pikers,
Nothing like what happens in LA after a championship, and comparing it to the serious incidents of soccer violence, this nothing.
