Really now, who is propping up the Palin bandwagon?
Palin's fifteen minutes ran out well over a year ago. After her run for the Veep slot failed, after she quit being a governor, after she flopped on her public touring, her star started taking on lots and lots of water, to the point where even conservatives, Freepers, and the like started running for the exits like rats on a sinking ship.

Yet looking around this board, one would continue to think that Palin is some sort of major threat, some sort of major political figure that needs to be vanquished. Time after time, when criticism of Obama gets to be too much for some, the old canard of "What, you want Palin in 2012?" is trotted out on schedule, like she really has a chance of winning the race for dogcatcher, much less the presidency.

Week in, week out, we are breathlessly informed of Palin's latest gaffe, stunt or stupidity. When she deigns to make a pronouncement, it is sure to be repeated here, within minutes, and in some cases only here. When she makes a major showing, like today's Rolling Thunder event, the board is filled with all manner of Palin threads. And if nothing has been in the offing from the Grizzly herself, then we are treated to diatribes about her kids, kids' former boyfriends, and other such minutia.

Yes, all these threads are beat downs of Palin, there is nothing positive said. But I think that we are forgetting one of the basic rules of marketing, namely that any publicity, even bad publicity, is a good thing.

With this endless obsession about all things Palin, we simply play right into her hands. We continue to keep her in the public spotlight, continue to keep her name out there, in play. We, with this endless nattering about all things Palin, are actually helping her cause, because we are continuing to provide her free publicity, even though it is bad publicity.

Please, stop it. Stop the endless obsessing, the endless discussion, the endless beating of a dead horse. Stop propping her up and giving her free publicity. It is not just annoying as hell, watching DU turning into Palin Central, but it is counterproductive as well. If you want Palin to disappear from the nation scene, stop giving her attention. Just drop Palin like a bad habit, and let her fade into the obscurity that she so richly deserves.

2. Actually, the election of a Sarah Palin is a distinct possibility. Remember this dude?
Every bit as fucking stoopid.

Americans, large voting blocs that are not the best informed, not the brightest, very emotional, could easily vote in a fool like Palin.

3. No, she's not
Bush had the backing of the power and money brokers in the Republican party and corporate America. Palin is so damned batshit crazy she can never get that sort of backing. In fact she was so toxic on that point that she killed the McCain campaign's monetary backing. All the big money folks either snapped their wallets close, or wrote out a check to Obama.

Stop fooling yourself, stop trying to fool us, stop spreading the bullshit.

You are severely underestimating the power of a photogenic personality.

15. You know, if I didn't know better, I'd say that you were trying to push a Palin campaign.
Seriously, poll after poll has shown that the Palin demographic is a serious minority. The money that drives high stakes political campaigns stays away from Palin in droves. So why are you out there trying to scare people with a meaningless strawman?

37. Ooh. Polls. Scared.
:scared:

If they can elect Bush, they'll elect a turd, that's all.

Suggesting that I'm out there trying to scare anyone is presumptuous.

You don't know me.

14. And you are seriously overestimating her political capital,
If she was such a huuuuuge political threat, why didn't she run in 2010 for some national office? Why did every single candidate she touched fail?

Because even she knows that she is a flash in the pan, one whose time has passed and is now consigned to a footnote in American history, at best.

Photogenic personality my ass. Yes, she has the typical vanilla bland "good looks". But it isn't like the President isn't photogenic, and intelligent, and experienced, and oh yes, the incumbent.

Stop trying to find bogey-men who aren't there.

6. Freepers have abandoned her?
I don't think so, go take a look at their site. Teabaggers still love her as well. I personally am relishing a palin campaign, the humor will be awesome.

There are more Palin posts here at any given time than there are over in Freeperville. That should tell you something, and not something good.

Go check it out for yourself. I just did, again. Nine threads going on GD alone concerning Palin, three going on over at Freeperville.

This stat holds up, day in, day out.

36. Why is it bad that we have lots of posts making fun of her?
or calling her a piece of shit? It is not like we have posts here supporting her. Trying to use number of posts between here and there says nothing, there are simply more of us then there are them. It does indeed show though that they have not abandoned her, in fact, they love her blindly.

Us ignoring her will not make her go away and to think so is a silly thing to do. You are free to go on and try to ignore her away, I'm going to keep pointing out how stupid she is.

17. And like I said in the OP, any publicity, good or bad, praising her or damning her,
Is still good publicity for her "cause". It keeps her name in the lights. You want Palin to go away, then let's stop obsessing over her, and her stock will drop like a rock.

19. Outside of Fox, I see very little about Palin anymore,
I hear nothing about her kids, their faults and foibles, I don't get the latest updates on her tweets, twits or. . . I get all that stuff here, right here, without clicking on a thread, just reading the subject lines.

20. Yet do we here about her tweets on CNN,
Where she is going, breathlessly obsessing on whether she is wearing her wedding ring, what her kid is doing, who she is riding with? No, we get all that stupid shit here, on this board. Any publicity, any, be it good or bad is a bonus for any politician. It is Marketing 101, go educate yourself and stop propping up Palin's paper empire.

11. POST OF THE DAY. Absolutely agree!!!
Sarah Palin is ONLY popular with the right BECAUSE the left absolutely DEMONIZES her. Without the HATE Sarah Palin would have disappeared about 3 days after Election 08.

Do you know WHY her talent-less daughter almost WON DWTS? Because all those righties watching TV would vote and say "take THAT Tina Fey" and "take THAT Keith Olberman"...

So... that's it.

12. Her job is to generate excitement, but not to run for President
Palin certainly loves attention. However, she loves making millions better. Her job is to generate excitement amongst the base and hatred against the Obama administration. However, she won't run for President - at least this election cycle.

The power brokers know she could get the nomination but could not win the general because such a high percentage of indepedents say they will never ever ever vote for her. Fox will make sure she serves her purpose.

21. But she's not even good at that anymore,
Her presence turns out what, dozens at a rally? Those who were formerly allied with her now don't want to be anywhere near her toxic ass. C'mon, get real. She can't get the nomination without the backing of the power and wealthy elite, and she is never going to get that. All she can do is try and tread water, stay afloat for as long as possible before sinking into obscurity. We need to stop throwing her life preservers and let her go.

23. Did they go into her tweets like we do around here?
Have they speculated about who gave birth to what in her family like we do around here? Do they cover her rallying dozens of people in Podunk Egypt like we do, or faithfully repeat her latest inane comment concerning the topic of the day, ranging from bin Laden to Arab Spring uprisings to the lint in her belly button?

No, they don't, that sort of inanity is only repeated here, endlessly, obsessively. Yes, the media does report the "major" Palin sightings, but that's it anymore, and it will be gone by tomorrow. But I guaran god-damned tee you that we'll still be here tomorrow, and the day after, and the day after that endlessly discussing the true meaning of her "fire in the belly" comment, and continuing to sift through the tea leaves to see why she didn't wear her wedding ring today, or the size of her motorcycle helmet or. . .

And meanwhile, over in Freeperville, on the night following a "major" Palin sighting, they have three threads up about her, while in GD alone, there are eight. That should tell you something.

26. I *WANT* Palin the win the Republican primary
because personally, I want her agenda and the agenda of the GOP/Tea Party ridiculed, defeated and destroyed.

I won't even remotely hold back on that, because the GOP as we know it has been an ideology of selling social conservatism wrapped in fiscally conservative packaging, with a dressing of racism, sexism, and totalitarianism as condiments.

So yeah, hype her up.
