How many American women and children will be physically abused in the next 72 hours?
Edited on Fri May-27-11 11:08 PM by Viking 1
It's Memorial Day Weekend, the traditional kickoff to summer. A time for families to go on "vacations" that--most of the time--are anything but a respite from the stresses of life. "Why the fuck didn't you pack what I told you, bitch?" "You're not going to your grandparents' house looking like a goddam sissy, David!" "Go back in and put something decent on or we're not going ANYWHERE, you little slut!"

On the other hand, many families in our Norman fucking Rockwell country will choose to stay home on this weekend honoring the ultimate sacrifice of brave men and women throughout our history, watching alcohol-fueled sporting events. "Oh FUCK OFF! That was an out!" The Twins lost tonight: therefore, the twins are going to get a visit from their angry, drunken, recently-laid-off Daddy. Yay!

In the meantime, whether going or staying, Mommy is wracked by anxiety, waiting for the other shoe to drop, and going through the list of doors walked into, staircase steps missed, and plain old-fashioned "womanly clumsiness," trying desperately to concoct yet another "explanation" for the ER physicians.

Yep, no doubt about it, them Islamists hate us for our freedom! :patriot:

1. One of the worst domestic beatings I've seen
involved an old man in a wheelchair who got hit every time he spoke.

It ain't just women and children.

2. Just a note...the stat that incidents of domestic abuse go up after
sporting losses is a myth. While incidents of abuse due tend to rise during the holidays, there hasn't been a proven link between team losses and domestic abuse. Plus, in my house, Daddy would have been in trouble after a Packers and/or Tigers loss, if that were true. .

bother to read the article I posted. If you think it's a myth, you are disagreeing with the National Institute of Health, not me.

Edit to add a direct link to the NIH about it:

13. I did. It's a myth. I read it when it came out again, with a downtick in percentages. Sorry.
I often disagree with the National Institute of Health (don't get me started). I'm going to go with the hundreds of actual law enforcement types who actually respond to domestic violence calls. Domestic Violence is a real and horrible problem, the battle against which shouldn't be hindered by propaganda such as this. That is my point.

16. I trust those who actually deal with the problem.

18. The NIH study is a new in-depth study that just came out. That is just an article. And the
NIH does deal with issues of domestic violence in our society in a very real way. I don't know why it bothers people to find out about the link between football and domestic violence... Maybe it's because men who watch football worry that it might make them look like violent idiots?? I don't know, but some men seem to get all riled up about it.

I have to go with the research from the NIH on this. It was a nicely done research project, and I have no reason to doubt it.

5. I suggest you get help ASAP.
Seriously.

You have to have issues to write something as senseless as that.

Good luck.

So, I guess these things don't happen in your Leave It To Beaver world. If so, well, congrats! You are one lucky mofo!

14. You seem to be suggesting that domestic physical and psychological abuse is a problem unique to...
the United States in its scope.

I don't believe the various psychological dysfunctions attendant to human nature respect national boundaries.
