Democrat leads race to replace shirtless Craigslist congressman
Source: AFP via Raw Story

NEW YORK (AFP) – For want of a shirt, an election may be lost.

That at least might be the mournful refrain heard from Republicans in western New York, where a reliably conservative district is very much in play on Tuesday for the opposition Democrats.

The district is holding a special election to fill a vacancy left by the resignation of Chris Lee, a married congressman who resigned from the US House of Representatives in February after posting photos of himself shirtless to a woman online.

That scandal has put Republicans on a back-foot in a district which they should win handily in normal times.

But pundits say more than the sex scandal, the once-safe Republican seat has been put at risk because of a voter backlash over the party's plan to overhaul the Medicare health program for elderly Americans

2. The Fact This Is Even A Race...
...shows how much the rushpublicans have over-reached in their zeal to please their corporate masters. Destroying medicare and busting unions aren't quite the winning ticket they thought they could get away with...and by not doing so have alienated the teabaggers. It's opened up a massive divide within this corrupt party that is all of their own doing and could be their ultimate undoing. Democrats once again are winning from default, not strength...

4. The real goal of the GOP has always been to kill SS and medicare/medicaid
every since the day they started the programs. The GOP's attacks on unions started with the forming of unions in the 1920's but those GOP members saw that as a losing battle so they sat in the back ground on it. They waited until Reagan was elected before acting on union busting, that is when the attack on unions started. Looking back you can clearly see how Reagan and the GOP weakened unions by allowing corporations to down size and out source union jobs, in effect weakening the unions bargaining powers so unions were forced to take concessions that favored corporations and not the workers.

5. think this has more to do with medicare then scandal
I mean the guy almost had an affair. And with the opposite sex.

For the GOP this scandal is downright boring.

However, the stealth candidates that gotten into office might have finally clued some voter sin that the GOP has been trying to get rid of medicare since it was invented.

Government programs don't seem so bad when it's the only reason you can afford health care.
