Message from a friend who lives just outside Joplin MO.
at the moment we are in the clear but severe storms are continuing...predicted to last til' Thursday. High winds, rain and hail off and on all day today. Joplin death toll now at 116 and climbing. Joplin devastated....some smaller communities close by as well. We have intermittent power and cell phone. Been unable to reach several clients and friends living in Joplin. Not a good day!! <name removed> was working at Freeman Hospital when storm hit. St John's Hospital wiped out so Freeman is carrying the load but temporary triage, morgues, etc have been set up.!00's without shelter or anything. National guard is here now too.Still trying to locate bodies and/or survivors but hampered by continuing storms.

3. This is soooo horrible. Now the prediction is really bad weather for eastern KS tomorrow night. I
hope it's not going to be a repeat again and on into MO, but most go west to east.

with your communities. Everyday when the weather turns bad where I live in Tn I always pull out my rosary and light my candle and pray to god my double wide trailer stands. I can't afford to buy insurance because am helping my son and his wife and kids. Right now I am trying to save $400 just to fix temporary the air conditioning. Yet I count my blessings because it could be worse.

5. We need to rethink everything about how we build.
Or this will be a century remembered only with tears.

7. Feeling useless from afar. I do hope the forecasts predicted are wrong going forward.

8. I've always identified with hobbits. Think I'll try to find a small mountain
and build in it.

10. My daughter and grandson are there.
She said a mere two blocks away from her home , all is devastation. They escaped damage and harm. Her grandma was not so lucky. She survived as her apt building was demolished around her. She too is not hurt badly. Scary couple of days. The way that town is leveled is chilling.
