Thinking about Trumka's notice to Democrats
I think Trumka is right when he says its time for Democrats to stand up for the working man if they expect the Union to stand up for them when it comes time for election or reelection. Far too many times in the last couple of years we've seen the towel thrown in before round 1 begins. The Unions are tired of it and Trumka is putting the Party on notice. Thinking about it this morning it occurred to me that so far Democrats have been very lucky on two things. First that the meek will inherit the earth, and second that by the time they do Republicans will have done away with any tax on the inheritance. Other than that I don't seen any benefit in the current Administration in being timid in the face of or trying to appease Republicans at the expense of Union support.

5. The politicians
get away with betraying the interests of the people and groups that elected them because they know a majority of us will eventually support their re-election in order to prevent somebody even worse from being elected. If people didn't do that - or if we had more than 2 viable political parties - that wouldn't happen so easily.

I applaud Trumka. Nothing wrong with holding the dumbshit politicians accountable.

12. And it's about darn time.
Democrats were always about the blue-collar workers. My coal miner grandfather used to say that the arm should fall off any blue-collar worker who votes for a Republican.

13. Class trumps party.

As we are engaged in class warfare that is the only possible posture, nothing else makes sense.

15. Yeah, some socialists...

The French Socialist Party is utterly compromised, how else could their 'shining star' be the head of that most capitalist of organizations?

16. Better than what we have here, at least in terms of policy..
As to personal morality, I'd be really surprised if we don't have some very high level rapists in this country that continually get away with it thanks to their exalted position.

Ahhnold comes pretty close to it, there was a parade of women who alleged he had molested them over the years and it was all thoroughly ignored..

17. True, but less so every day.

What they got is the result of their more radical past. In France, Spain and Greece, to name a few, the nominally socialist mainstream parties are full partners in dismantling the gains of the past, they are utterly bankrupt.

Everywhere and always the rich have 'rights' that we do not, they pay for them.
