Canadian is Now the New 'N' Word....

In the southern states, 'Canadian' has now become the new slur racists use when referring to blacks. Instead of using the "N" word, racist now use the term "Canadian."
According to Texans from Houston, “Canadian” is just another word for "n*****." This was discovered this week when a columnist who writes for the Houston Chronicle found an email from Mike Trent who is the district attorney in Harris County, Texas. Apparently, Mike Trent wrote a note congratulating a junior prosecutor, in which he used the term "Canadians" to describe the blacks on a jury. The email read, "He overcame a subversively good defence by Matt Hennessey that had some Canadians on the jury feeling sorry for the defendant and forced them to do the right thing." The grounds for such alleged accusations of the use of the term "Canadians" and its hidden meaning is listed on an online racial slurs database that defines "Canadian" as a code for the word "n******." "In his own defence, Trent said he honestly thought there had been Canadians on the jury and did not understand the negative connotation of the word.”
In Cincinnati, a female blogger reported that a black friend from the southeastern part of the U.S. had just recently learned that she was being referred to as a “Canadian.” She told her friend that while she was working at the store that she overheard some of the customers complain that they were "always waited on by a Canadian at that place.” Since she didn’t know what they were talking about, she assumed they were referring to someone else. However, after repeated incidents with other patrons, she brought the subject up to one of her co-workers. He told her that “Canadian” was the new slur which racists were now using to describe blacks they would've previously referred to as n******
In Kansas a waitress also reported that “fellow workers used the term for inner-city families that were known to not leave a tip.

A coworker here in Pittsburgh told me that they use that "code word" when talking about blacks around their then-preschool daughter. That was in late 1999 or early 2000 IIRC.

When I worked as a food server a couple of people I worked with said that whenever a black table came in.

17. I live in Texas and never heard that, even after Katrina when there was so

much trash talk about 'those' people from New Orleans or 'Katrina people'. But then, I don't associate with anyone who would use bad slang to describe minorities. Except my grandson, who has so many friends of every type that one nickname for him is 'J-nigga', much to my horror.

18. this is news? in texas, this goes back at least 20 years.

i first heard about it from a waitress. there are apparently some very negative stereotypes about certain behaviors of blacks in restaurants, and if waitstaff didn't want to be overheard whining about a table of "blacks", they'd use "uh, ... canadians" instead.
