High gas prices fuel increased public-transit ridership

Rising gas prices are helping drive a double-digit growth in ridership at several public-transit systems across the country.

In Miami, passenger counts on the regional rail service connecting the city to the northern suburbs were up more than 12 percent in April compared to a year ago, according to the American Public Transit Association.



In New Mexico, the "Rail Runner," a commuter train that runs from south of Albuquerque to Santa Fe, attracted 14 percent more riders in April than the same month last year.

And in the Raleigh-Durham-Chapel Hill area of North Carolina, ridership on the express bus service connecting the three cities was up 18 percent. .............(more)

1. We are doing a lot of Stay the Hell at Home

limiting trips has always been part of the plan..I have been planning my route out ahead of time and making every trip at least several stops for various errands. When the old van died we bought(buying STILL!) a Versa, under 18g, 34 36 mpg, can pack a lot of stuff in it, has good heat and ac and its Dependable.
There is no mass transit where we live out in the boonies.
