Tennessee : Monster Corporations Turn on GLBTs:
Edited on Sat May-21-11 08:47 PM by Smarmie Doofus
This was posted to GLBT by Will Parkinson ( Props!) but it needs a wider audience.

Good thing about this is they are ALL EMINENTLY BOYCOTT-able.

Don't forget to sign the petition at the link.

TENNESSEE: Major Corporations Back Statewide Ban On LGBT Rights

AmericaBlog Gay reports on the backers of yesterday's ban on LGBT rights in Tennessee.

The Tennessee Chamber of Commerce - chaired by
Nissan, and whose other board members include such companies as :
FedEx,
AT&T,
Comcast,
DuPont,
Pfizer,
Blue Cross Blue Shield,
Caterpillar,
KPMG,
Whirlpool,
Embraer,
Alcoa, and
United HealthCare
- actively lobbied for a religious right bill in the Tennessee legislature that would rescind Nashville's civil rights protections for its gay and trans citizens, and which bans every city in Tennessee from passing any civil rights laws, for anyone, ever again. The bill passed yesterday. It's on its way to the state's Republican governor for his signature, unless he vetoes it. And these companies led the way in making it happen.
Sign this open letter to the Tennessee Chamber of Commerce demanding that they rescind their support for this hateful bill.

but believe me, they are coming for you next. This is about the emergence of a strong fascist plutocracy. Things like this do not bode well for anyone.

We are moving into a country fully dominated by a large corporate structure taking control fully of the gov. at many levels. Americans really need to wake up and take an interest in all discrimination. Those not discriminated against now will be next, that's how it works in a corporate driven government. People do not matter. The first objective is to go after the minorities as the country is divided and conquered by a corporate empire.

In fact, as someone said in another post, we are moving toward a dictatorship by oligarchs.

16. The silver lining to the tea-party ascendancy is that....
.... it's bringing together different elements of the progressive DEM coalition... after a long period of time when we were cut off from each other. On the surface, what does GLBT rights have to do w. economic justice? Not much really. Or so we thought.

But guess who's trying to repeal GLBT gains in Wisconsin! Mr. Economic Injustice himself: Walker!

21. Yep, it's all the same stuff, repression of people, using the oldest trick in
the book, divide and conquer. While some groups cheer the others defeat, those cheering are also being readied for the slaughter.

Hopefully Americans are waking up to the fact this country and our way of life, and what made it great, are under siege. The republicans are using a form of domestic warfare.

“Alcoa provides equal employment opportunity without discrimination and supports state and local legislation protecting the rights of all community members. We do not agree with the chamber on this issue and would ask that the governor veto the bill."

State Registry. I can not think of the name of the group--ALEC?? or something like that? Maybe this is happening in all states?? with Repug legislatures??

Also, the provision for banning all cities in TN from passing civil rights laws!! What is this??

14. These people would also love to repeal the civil rights laws of the 60's. The gay thing
is just one step, basically, they want a feudal system with no rights by the majority of the citizens. This country is taking an evil turn and I am really tired of how Americans are lambs for the kill.

44. Just another head of the Corporate Supremacist Hydra; as it works to
separate and alienate the people from "We the Peoples'" government.

If the citizens can't trust their representative government to protect them and look out for their best interests, the mega-corporations will dominate a weakened government and become the peoples' masters selling them down the river so that a few corporate elites can rake in the almighty dollar.

Thanks for the thread, Smarmie Doofus.
