1. I don't know how old you are, but I remember all that
quite vividly.

Even the Chicago newspapers, not normally sympathetic to the Panthers, knew that this was a travesty.

4. White folks loved this brotha to. He can gather poor people of all races.
The government feared him because of that gift.

6. Don't forget Mark Clark, and his very pregnant
girlfriend, who was not killed, but thrown in jail

Mark Clark worked against employment discrimination and hunger.

The Panthers got a bad name, because they stood up to the power structure. They were not shuffling Uncle Toms.

Feeding people and providing fair employment are so radical and dangerous. Yeah.

The police probably fired a hundred rounds into that apartment. The Panthers got off one shot.

10. I thought Peoria.
A friend of mine had a father who was a pastor with a Lutheran race relations council. He was interesting, because he was raised by a widowed father and the black family who lived next door. He knew the Clark family.

He went to see Mark Clark's girlfriend in jail, and made sure she had what she needed. I can't imagine being almost nine months pregnant and in jail, with the father of my child murdered right in front of me.

13. I'm 55 and don't remember any of it.
I've been trying to go back and find out, though, about all the things that happened since the Montgomery bus boycott which started the month I was born. A lot of those events went right over my head.

11. That is true.
They did get away with those murders, at least officially.

Hanrahan ended up being hated and reviled. He became a liability to the Chicago political machine, and lost his job as state's attorney.

A lot of people started to see things differently. Hampton and Clark were making a difference. They should have been left alone.
