Hotels shift away from bathtubs

BETHESDA, Md., May 20 (UPI) -- An official with Maryland-based hotel chain Marriott said the industry is phasing out bathtubs in favor of showers to meet the desires of business travelers.

The chain said 75 percent of rooms in new structures will have only showers while Holiday Inn said it has gone from 95 percent of its new rooms having bathtubs 10 years ago to only 55 percent of current rooms in new structures, USA Today reported Friday.

....

"Most business people are on the run and take a quick shower," Barrie said. "There's no time for baths."

"Plus," Barrie said, "the shower experience now can be pretty dramatic."

1. Fuck that noise. Sometimes you just want to soak in a hot bathtub with a glass of merlot.
Assholes.

3. I was thinking this was a good idea until...
I read your post. Your right this would be bad for families with young children. I was thinking of how hard it is for the elderly like my FIL to get into a tub to take a shower plus lots bath tubs in hotels are slippery.

People always think from their on perspective first I guess.

4. "For your convenience" = "For our bottom line"
Showers require approximately the same amount of plumbing as tubs, but take up less space and are probably cheaper to put in overall. They're also easier for hotel staff to clean.

I like the occasional bath, but generally go with showers. I do, however, rather prefer they not be "pretty dramatic"
