I am worried
I walk daily and have been for months. I take my two fur babies and we walk a couple of miles in the morning and in the late afternoon. I have seen homeless since I started my regiment. I am not seeing them anymore or at least the ones I have seen since last summer. The economy hasn't improved much and the shelters do not take single people. One man is diabetic and I would try to make sure he had a supply of oranges. My husband and I are disabled and we can't do much but we try to do what we can.

I am worried sick about them and I don't know what to do. The local paper hasn't reported any deaths. I guess I am hoping their routine has changed for the better.

1. Two thoughts:

1- Maybe the local police could look for them ? I'm hopeful your police and/or Sheriff's Department are kind to the homeless.

2- If you have a homeless outreach agency in your area, they may look a bit for them. Or perhaps the state or county social services department ?

3. Done that
I help out with the shelters so I know they are not there. I will call the police. There are so many homeless in my area. It's been a hard winter in So Ca and now it's finally warmer. I just received a phone call and was told they may have headed to Los Angeles because there are more services there.

On a side note our food bank can no longer keep up with the demand.

8. Thank you, I will
I really appreciate the help. A lot of people find it funny that I worry. I figure we are all in it together.

9. Thank you. I very much appreciate your compassion.
My guess is, they were run out of town, and the cops aren't likely to tell you that.

10. It's crossed my mind
It has been eerie. They were here and then a couple of days ago they vanished.

11. Its the "vanishing" that makes me think the cops ran them out.
And believe me, they don't care whether it causes suffering and/or death. We are just trash to them.

There is an older couple here who had befriended a guy living under the bridge. He became a family friend, and they took him home-cooked meals, bought him a really good sleeping bag, etc.

Suddenly one day he was just gone. They went to the police and everyone who knew him. They even went to the next town to look for him. They are concerned. They were such good friends over about two years, that there is no way this man would have just left without telling them, unless he was rushed out by the cops.

I talked with them about what the group of young people did in western Colorado, and got the police chief there to fire two of the cops for their actions, did an investigation, fired another one and a fourth one quit rather than be fired. The man thought about it, then said, "I think I will talk with the police chief here."

These are things we can ALL do.. this criminalization MUST stop, and we can't just keep wringing our hands. That small group of young people had no money, no status in the community, and no legal back-up, but they were determined, and they were organized, and they took care of business and kept the homeless people there safer.

We. Can. Do. This.

I hope you find your friend! :pals:
