Romney: Obama 'threw Israel under the bus'
Source: Associated Press

HANOVER, N.H. – Republicans looking to unseat President Barack Obama charged that he undermined the sensitive and delicate negotiations for Middle East peace with his outline for resumed talks between Israelis and Palestinians.

Former Utah Gov. Jon Huntsman said Obama, whom he served as U.S. ambassador to China until last month, undercut an opportunity for Israelis and Palestinians to build trust. Former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney said Obama "threw Israel under the bus" and handed the Palestinians a victory even before negotiations between the parties could resume. Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich called it "the most dangerous speech ever made by an American president for the survival of Israel."

Foreign policy has hardly been the center of the debate among the still-forming GOP presidential field. Instead, the candidates and potential candidates have kept their focus — like the country's — on domestic issues that are weighing on voters and their pocketbooks. Obama's speech Thursday provided one of the first opportunities for Republicans to assert their foreign policy differences with Obama and his Democratic administration.

Obama endorsed Palestinians' demands for the borders of its future state based on 1967 borders — before the Six Day War in which Israel occupied East Jerusalem, the West Bank and Gaza. That was a significant shift in U.S. foreign policy.

3. omg.. so tired of this sh*t... just posturing for campaign support and contributions
from the Jewish community..not addressing the issue honestly-this is all about campaign money and nothing about governing, diplomacy or smart policy... sick of it.. sick of it...

and this from the man who waffles on his health care plan and doesn't have the courage to throw it under the bus to admit he's wrong to his rabid base.. you know.. the one that looks suspiciously like Obama's

5. The presdient undercut any negotiations. The new 'base level' has been set.

I don't understand why Obama did it. It just makes the Palestinians less amenable to compromise.

It fucks up everything, IMO.

"The Palestinians less amenable to compromise"?

Whose homes, farms, and businesses are being destroyed? Who's being beaten to a pulp? Whose perishable food exports to Europe are held up until they rot? Who's land is being settled on illegally by citizens of the military occupier? That would be the Palestinians.

Who's said they would recognize Israel's right to exist as part of a peace agreement? That would be the Palestinians, in the 1982 Fez declaration.

Who's been destroying the other side's homes, farms, and businesses and beating them to a pulp and settling on their land in violation of UN regulations? That would be the Israelis.

Who's recognized the Palestinians right to exist? Not the Israelis, that's for sure.

Who keeps lying their heads off about wanting peace? That would be the Israeli government, while it continues its ethnic cleansing.

6. Under the bus, with Mitt
How, exactly, is restating the policy that has essentially been in place for the last 6 presidents, Republican and Democratic, throwing Israel under the bus?

12. Tsipi Livni disagrees
But what does she know? Obviously Romney knows much more about Israel and its needs than she does.

15. No, but he obviously knows much more...
...about the needs of Republicans to make inroads on Jewish voters and do even more to sew up the Christian fundamentalist ("Israel must survive and be protected above all else...until the Second Coming when all those Christ-killers will be sent to burn in Hell for all eternity!" ) vote -- probably more the latter than the former.

14. Yes, obviously only people who oppose the survival of Israel...
would endorse Obama's peace plan.

Like this Israel-hater, for instance:

*sarcasm*

Of course, Romney would know all about throwing places under the bus. According to my friends in Boston, he's done a pretty good job of throwing Massachusetts under the bus.
