Family Files Wrongful Death Suit Against Four Loko

[The Straight Story]

A family from suburban Washington D.C. has filed a wrongful death suit against the Chicago-based makers of Four Loko, an alcoholic energy drink, after their 15-year-old son allegedly died after consuming two cans.

The Rupp family said the their son, John "Bo", drank the concoction while at a concert on Sept 26th 2010. and began acting erratically. Concert staff called the family to pick him up. When they got him to their home, he took off running.

He went onto a busy road and was struck and killed.The Rupps filed their suit against Phusion Projects, the makers of Four Loko, in Cook County Circuit Court. They said they want to raise awareness about the beverage, often referred to as "blackout in a can," as prom and graduate season arrives.

The suit alleges Phusion was "careless and negligent" in formulating this alcohol caffeine mixed beverage

4. dude, that shit is NO JOKE. as a seasoned beer drinker, i never bought the hype, until i tried one.

i decided to try one since they made them illegal here.

granted, i had had a few beers first.

so i say "12%? ok, this 24oz can is the equivalent of 4 beers. no problemo."

i drank that shit, blacked out, cooked myself a three course mexican meal, drunk dialed someone, and remember none of it. it's not the booze, it's whatever stuff they put in there!

9. What I'm concerned about

is that laws designed to prevent the sale of this will impinge on the rights of brewers to brew, and drinkers to drink, the coffee-infused stouts that quite a few craft brewers make with excellence.

I'm an IPA man, myself, but every once in awhile I try a coffee stout, and yes, sometimes they come in 22 oz. bombers.

11. My girlfriend and I shared 2 cans of it...

In the course of a night we:

1) stole a chair from the dance we were at and put it in a fountain
2) sat upside down for 10 minutes in the chair in the fountain
3) crawled on the floor in our dorm room because we couldn't walk
4) ate 3 large pizzas

And the next day remembered none of it

Is there the slightest legal doubt that he might be dead?

I think the jury's still out as to whether or not this family is brain dead. He could have been just as deceased from a bottle of whatever spirits he might have had access to.
