Those Who Can't, Teach.
Those Who Can't Teach, Teach Gym.

It just isn't funny anymore. Wasn't funny then either.

But then again, NY Jewish humor maybe doesn't play that well in Kansas...

12. No, it's not about bashing teachers. It's about being funny.
Humor is pain. It's a Jewish thang, you wouldn't understand.

Woody probably has more teachers in his family than you can imagine.

It's a STYLE of humor that doesn't translate well to the Bible Belt, I'm serious,

13. You don't know me.
You don't know that I have Jewish relatives. Some are teachers and they don't find it funny either. And no one I know here in the "bible belt" is lacking a sense of humor.

This regional bashing on DU is repulsive.

17. It's not bashing to suggest their are cultural differences between regions and
cultural groups.

I grew up in NY and moved to the Midwest. Even the Jewish people were very different and I realized I felt more in common with NY Italians than Midwestern Jewish people.

24. You said it wasn't funny but many people have found the joke to be funny.
I am one of them despite the fact that my mother, father, sister and brother were all teachers and I also have taught some.

Therefore I posited that it was a cultural-bound joke that doesn't play well with some senses of humor.

That's my opinion and I am sticking to it. Call it what you like, but not every culture is the same in my experience.

20. Sorry.....
...I'm not into religion. I grew up in a Baptist home and was forced to go to church as a child. I never really believed in a god, and it's those who do that scare me the most. Fanatics! Of course, I know the majority of church-goers are good honest people, but so are non-church-goers. Whatever floats your boat. I'm one of those who believes everyone has a right to believe what they believe.

25. I am in complete agreement. I amalso
not a religious person. But, I know quite a few who are very sincere in their beliefs, including some church leaders who I happen to admire for their intellect and dedication to their beliefs

, otoh, there are those that are truly scary for the path they are laying out for their followers. And also those that are "in it" to enrich themselves.

Just one more cross section of society, I guess.

I was in a social situation once when someone said that bullshit statement. I said, in a ... classroom voice... "What a stupid fucking thing to say!" A proud moment in my life. It could have been better, but it sure worked in that situation.

26. In the Teachers College I atttended...

...it was:

Those who can do

Those who can't, teach

Those who can't teach

Teach teachers.

Don't remember being too offended. Nor do I remember rubbing it in my teachers face.

I was also not offended when my friends chided my minor in Sociology with:

Sociologists take it upon themselves to answer questions, that nobody in their right mind would ask.

It's all highbrow humour, I was told.

.

Those who can't teach, teach teachers.
And those who can't teach teachers become administrators.

"Those who can, do. Those who can't, teach. And those who can't teach, teach gym."

It's funny because I have a very good friend who's a gym teacher. We laugh about it all the time.

ON EDIT: I just looked above. Sorry, meegbear, looks like I stole your line. I don't like Woody Allen, so I never knew the quote orignated with him.
