Menards highlights products made in America.
I saw a Menards' ad twice this morning in which the items they were promoting were specifically advertised with the location in the US where they were manufactured. Thought I'd make a note of this for everyone. I do think some of these stores are starting to respond to a demand that American made products be readily available.

2. Yeah Menard is a big time Repuke but at least he's promoting US-made products.
I think that's a good thing. Maybe offsets some of the damage his political contributions make.

3. Don't know anything about the ownership of the company, but
I did notice the ad for its content. If they are willing to step forward and push American made goods, let them. It doesn't mean that we have to agree with his politics.

9. Let's see, the only thing made in america is
the house components manufactured by Midwest Manufacturing... Things like trusses, fence panels, etc. Everything else in that store is made in china and has a life-expectancy of six weeks at best.

4. The very first thing I heard when I moved to Minnesota six
years ago was a Menard's ad. I was driving a 24' moving van I had bought for the move, and there the ad was on the radio.

Since then, I've frequently "Saved Big Money at Menard's."

I bought my first snowblower there, and the laminate floor that replaced my carpeting, and much, much more. I don't give a good crap about the politics of the owner, frankly. I'm not buying him. I'm buying stuff.

5. "You'll save big money, you'll save big money..."
They have had that same jingle at least since I was a kid. They had the same spokesman, Ray Szmanda, for 20+ years. Menards commercials are like an institution here in MN. When Ray retired, they tried to replace him but the ads tested poorly because viewers missed him! So now the TV ads never have a person in the shot, just an announcer's voice.

Looks like some of his old ads are on Youtube. :)

6. They've spotlighted USA made products for years in their ads.
Probably at least once a year.

7. I like Menards, much better than HD or Lowes, unfortunately there are none around here and I only go
when I'm in another state. Sorry to hear they're repukes. Hearing about HD's contributions to the repubs is why I stopped shopping there unless I can't find it at Lowes or Ace.

8. I have recently had a difficult time of even finding a "Made In ..." label any more on stuff
Used to be very prominent. Then the labels got so small I needed a magnifying glass to read them. Now I can't even find a label on half the stuff in the stores any more.

Anyone else notice this?

Don

10. Menards is apparently making its way south
I think Wichita, KS, (my old stomping grounds that I return to often as family still lives there) is getting one as my niece was pretty excited about it. She's engaged to a guy from Minnesota and loved the store when she went to visit his parents. I only knew of the store through Mystery Science Theater 3000 as every now and then they would use, "Big Savings at Menards!" in their riffs. :)

11. There is a brand new Menards in Salina....
I drove by it yesterday. I read that there are going to be 2 in Wichita (one east, one west side) and one in Manhattan.

12. They do that about once a year or so. What's sad to think about is there was a time when this kind
of promotion wasn't necessary, and "imported" meant something fancy from Europe.
