The talking heads can't seem to talk about this guy without saying "he's got a lot of new ideas" but they never tell us what those ideas are.

For the life of me, I can't recall ONE new idea (unless his big idea of shutting down the government is counted) that Newtie put forward on ANYTHING. All he seems to blather about is how Obama is some kind of Nazi and plenty of people have used that one, too...

Please?

1. Cut the capital gains tax
And, uh, cut tax rates on the wealthiest "earners." Let's see . . . did I mention a capital gains tax cut?

7. Newt got that reputation long ago, and has milked it ever since
Edited on Fri May-13-11 08:48 AM by JHB
Back before he publicly equated government programs with socialism, he was one of the few members of congress who took an interest in promoting projects involving information technologies, biotechnologies, space technologies, etc. Considering how few people in Congress thought about those things at all except in terms of pork, it made him a big thinker.

I'm grinding my teeth in an I-can't-believe-I'm-being-fair-to-this-loathsome-bastard way, but the "Jurassic Park" and "space sex" quotes are basically advertising "hooks", nice shiny objects to focus on for an audience that otherwise would be lost in a fog of incomprehension. Talk about mining on the Moon or on asteroids, and our political class just hears "yadda yadda yadda". Talk "zero-g sex" and their suddenly you've got their attention.

When Al Gore was "inventing the Internet" (i.e., laying the legislative groundwork needed to expand Arpanet outside of its military-and-university-research-center origins), the guy working the Republican side of the aisle was Newt Gingrich -- a fact that was quickly forgotten when there was political mileage to be gained from misrepresenting what AG had said about his role.

These days, Newt's their "ideas man" because they just don't have any new ideas at all, so it actually does fit.

9. Newt will sign on to anything that will make his masters at Lockheed Martin a sweet contract.

They were the ones bankrolling him when he was in his House seat in GA.

10. Seems like his "new ideas" are more domestic drilling, cutting corporate taxes and ending Obamacare

Pretty much the same old GOP dogma, but with a side order of adultery and a couple of crappy "alternate history fiction" novels.
