Small town life. Gotta love it!

My dog is missing. He refuses to stay in the yard. I've done everything I can, but he has several houses he visits on a daily basis and nobody or nothing is going to keep him from his routine. Not even a fence.

So, put an "lost ad" on the local radio station. Get 3 calls and ask if we are talking about Darnell and tell us that they haven't seen him since Monday, but they will keep an eye out for him.

Talked to the mail carrier today--asked if he had seen this dog and described him--he already knew him by name. Will keep his eyes out.

Texted the dogcatcher--he hasn't seen him but will drop him by the house if he finds him.

Stopped a little boy walking down the street. He, too, knows Darnell. Said he and his friends will look for him.

I'm afraid someone took him. He is an escape artist--he has had plenty of time to escape any confines that someone has put him in if it is closeby. But it is very comforting to know that Darnell has such a remarkable support system.

5. I live in a town like yours. Ain't it grand?
That being said, what kind of neighbor YOU are dictates what kind of response you get about the dog.
Judging from people's reactions, you are a good neighbor.

We have had 2 neighbors with roaming dogs.

In once case, I know the people, they are "dog" people who love and care for their pooches, so the one time
the dogs escaped from the yard, we called them at work to let them know, then lured the pooches back to their own yard with food.

The other neighbor, not so much a nice guy. His 3 dogs chased our cat under our deck, then sent the minister's pre-schoolers next door running in screaming fear.
After 3 escape episodes the neighbor kept blaming his wife for letting them out, got testy with the people in the neighborhood about the dogs, and only apologized after the 4th attempt brought out the animal control officer with a warning.
STILL most of the neighborhood was willing to work with him.
Until his picture appeared in the paper over the heading "DUI".

He has moved.

6. Ohh, I hope you get him back...

My Uncle used to take his basset hound, Portnoy. to his teeny tiny town law practice and all the appointed rounds in small town, Missouri years ago. Everyone knew him too and watched out for him. He had quite the life... Sadly, those days where a dog could occasionally roam free without consequence have largely ended in most towns.

I hope you get your Darnell back and maybe he has lost the urge to roam--at least so long and so far. ;)

8. Darnell's life reads like a Benji movie. He has a route.
He'll come back unless something bad happened.

Good luck.

9. Is he looking for love? Perhaps you could borrow a female dog & walk it around the
area?

My male dog slipped out of his leashed collar & jumped out of an open car window (looking for a female, we think). We lost him for a week, 7 days, before he was located. It was quite an adventure trying to find him, especially because he disappeared about 20 miles from where we live, but it was truly a miracle that we got him back. Miracles do happen; it's an extraordinary story & everyone who has heard the story is astonished.

Just keep searching the streets. Put ads in the local paper. Someone who doesn't know him or you may have thought someone dumped him & is feeding him.

I hope you find him! I know how it feels.
