A mob of protesters chased a would-be flag burner off the Louisiana State University campus Wednesday, ending the display before it began.

LSU graduate student Benjamin Haas had originally planned to burn an American flag reportedly in response to the recent arrest of another LSU student who stole and burning a flag from a war memorial. Instead, Haas agreed to read a statement.

While reading the statement he was surrounded by a large crowd yelling obscenities and chanting, "USA" and "Go to hell hippie, go to hell."

Ultimately, about 1,000 LSU students and other protesters forced police to intervene.

Oh, look, there's teabagger flags in that crowd...

of another student named Isaac Estava who was arrested for the suspected removing and burning of a US flag which was part the university's war memorial.

It was reported that Estava did such because he was upset with the death of bin Laden.

10. A few days earlier...
another student had taken the flag from a local war/veterans memorial and burned it early in the morning and caused some damage. He was arrested.

School population got angry about the flag desecration and this secondary guy went to the local area for free speech to show that it was still within his rights to burn the flag even if others were angry about it.

That is the jist of the story I heard...a

6. Yippee! First amendment rights for everyone!
Not sure how it can be bad for people of any and all opinions to express themselves.

9. Unless physical violence was used, nobody's freedom of speech was prevented
The 1st amendment does not mean that everybody is forced to be quiet and listen to you.

11. How is anyone prevented from exercising their First Amendment rights here?
You have the right to speak, but not the right to make sure you are heard. Those booing are also exercising their First Amendment rights.

I agree that it looks like teabagger flags in the crowd, but don't see the First Amendment rights being taken away. What do you mean? Thanks.

12. My thoughts exactly.
If the government shut him down because of his message, then it would be a violation of his First Amendment rights.

Assuming, of course, he wasn't inciting a riot or threatening violence.
