Now is the perfect time to cut defense spending...
With the death of Osama Bin Laden, it will be very difficult for Republicans to say President Obama and the Democrats are weak on defense. That political hot potato is now cold.

The President could start withdrawing troops from Afghanistan immediately and closing some of these expensive military bases around the world. Why are they there anyway, except to protect corporate interests, in many cases?

The Republicans want a deficit reduction plan. Give it to them. Start with the Defense Department. Then close the tax loopholes for big businesses and corporations. Tax the Big Oil companies - don't just stop the "tax subsidies". Tax 'em 'til their eyes bleed. Let the Bush taxcuts expire on everyone, not just those making 250K and above. It's a time for sacrifice and the gravy train is over.

1. 10% of the MIC budget would cover the reductions they want. nt

5. And when it doesn't get cut?
I have a hunch that it is in the same category as the public option -- something that Obama knows is not good for his benefactors.
