President Gingrich???
President Gingrich??? President Gingrich??? Those words are as frightening as they are laughable.

But the reason I'm not laughing is because this country elected an amiable imbecile, Ronald Reagan, to the presidency -- twice.

And another reason I'm not laughing is because there was no popular uprising in this country when George W. Bush stole the presidency -- twice. (Once in FL and the second time in Ohio.)

Gingrich has announced he's running for president. And as disgusting as the Republican Party is, Gingrich is their poster boy for a walking, breathing disease. Yet, the idea that we are not hearing a few hundred million people laughing at him is a bad omen.

The Republicans own the voting machines and Republican governors have redistricted many states to maximize Republican votes in statewide and national elections.

There was a time when I thought that Moe, Larry, or Curly had a better chance of becoming president than did Newt Gingrich. No more. Our country has become a very scary place. And if the Koch brothers decide to spend a billion or two to back Gingrich, who knows what could happen.

A journalist from the 1920s, H. L. Mencken, said "No one ever went broke underestimating the intelligence of the American people." His words should terrify us when we look at what our country has become.

Hopefully, this is just my paranoia running amok. Then again ...

1. You are not paranoid. We have an over-abundance of ignorant people in this country.
And most of them vote Republican. No, your paranoia is well justified.

2. I'll never underestimate
the stupidity of the American people again after shrubbo in 2004. My only solace in the event of a newtie presidency is my dual Canadian citizenship.

That being said, I don't see Gingrich making it through the puke nomination process. He's just got too much baggage on both sides to actually be successful in my opinion.

3. Newt will never be president, but there will be a republican to be named later. They never give up.

5. Regarding Gingrich, never say never.

Who would have believe we would have watched Bush Jr. occupy the Oval Office and defile the presidency for eight long, horrible years. It didn't seem possible. But it happened. Really. It's all on tape and film.

I really believe that our country is far enough down the rabbit hole to let Gingrich get into the White House.

And please, please, magic wizard in the sky. Let me be wrong.

6. The Christian right will have no problem with him. They have turned
hypocrisy into an art form. I can't wait to see the "New Newt."
