Alton Brown calls an end to 'Good Eats'
Alton Brown called an end to his instructional half-hour show yesterday, announcing it to fans as his first post on Twitter:

"G.E. fans, I've decided to cut the half hour series at 249 eps. There will be 3 new 1 hour eps this year and that's it. But mourn not. New things brew on the horizon..."good" things."

The final new, half-hour episode aired last week.

The pilot for "Good Eats" aired originally on Chicago's WTTW in 1998 before it was picked up by the Food Network. It became such a staple of the network that reruns aired twice daily for years. It also became one of the Food Network's most respected shows, picking up Peabody and Beard awards along the way (including a Beard on Friday for "TV food personality/host"), largely because of Brown's genial Mr. Science-meets-Chef approach.

2. One of their few shows that should be syndicated.
He achieved his goal of being entertaining and educational at the same time very well.

5. Too bad. It was the one cooking show that showed you
why cooking is important and how the process alters raw ingredients into tasty cuisine. I've learned a lot over the years from that show.

8. Evidently I was watching at the wrong time.

I was not a regular viewer but when I did tune in the show I was watching at the time seemed to be a repeat. So for some time I had the impression that he was no longer making any new shows and so I didn't watch so often. I always found his presentation informative and entertaining. Maybe the Food Ntwk could have done a better job of pointing out which shows were new or recently produced.

the competition "cooking" crap they have on now.

when one of the cupcake shows comes on. I like the cake decorating challenges, though.

weeks back when they were stunt-casting with various Food Network personalities.

17. Sad news.
Dynamite show that always balanced humor and worthwhile instructional content. But I suspect it will be in repeats forever, so there's that much.

Hope he stays on Iron Chef.

so does my 8 year old. For several years now she has asked if Alton's show is on and can we watch it. We are normally happy to oblige.

And thought it was rather entertaining too! He's done a great deal to bring the actual science of cooking into the discussion. Thanks for broadening our horizons Alton! Looking forward to the new endeavor.

32. I stole his "Who Loves Ya" Ribs recipe years ago.
Made a few changes to the ingredients (I use coke or beer instead of white wine & honey) and called it my own. Everyone tells me they are the best they ever had.

Thanks Alton!
