NY-26 is an interesting place to live these days...
It just doesn't get much better than this. I've been a Dem committee member (city, county and, more recently, state) for some time, and I never thought I would see the day that a Democrat could possibly take this Congressional district.

Here's some links to the latest:

1. Channel 2 (WGRZ-TV) is hosting a debate between Hochul and Corwin this morning.

"Two On Your Side and the Rochester Democrat and Chronicle will host a debate between two major candidates for the 26 Congressional District seat on Thursday, May 12th.
Republican Jane Corwin and Democrat Kathy Hochul have agreed to take part in the debate.
Independent candidate Jack Davis orginally agreed to participate in the debate, but backed out Wednesday..."

2. The Erie County GOP sent out an email last evening with a Youtube link alleging Davis assaulted one of their volunteers. The 14-second clip doesn't definitively show Davis touching the volunteer (and, in my opinion, the Republicans certainly have enough money to hire better actors - check out the clip), and so far they have refused to release the full video, or the one taken by another volunteer standing farther away. I'm sure this story isn't played out yet - I can't wait for the rest!

And I know it's been posted, but here's a link to Hochul's website should anyone feel the need to join in the fun (say, with a donation):

1. A beautiful place, NY 26, it would please me to see it go
Democratic. I've spent time there, on Conesus Lake and all around. Lovely.

4. General consensus is that it's a number of factors, primarily:
1. This is a district that is heavy in voters over the age of 45. Corwin's saying that she would have voted for the Ryan budget has been very strongly publicized by the other two candidates. "Don't screw with our Medicare!"

2. Jack Davis' candidacy has pulled more support from Corwin than Hochul. Even though Jack was our endorsed candidate a few times, his general points of view appeal to more conservative voters, and before (and after) he was a temporary Democrat, he's been a life-long Republican.

3. Hochul has been a pretty popular and effective Erie County Clerk.

3. "Jack Davis orginally agreed to participate in the debate, but backed out Wednesday..."
...because the other candidates were mean to him, and said thing that were not nice!.

5. I just listened to the debate online. My observations:
1. Corwin kept harping on Hochul's past record as a Hamburg Town Board member, where she voted to raise taxes several times. She had nothing to say about her current record as County Clerk (which is generally positively viewed by voters of both parties).

2. Corwin was definitely cornered about her statement that she would have voted for the Ryan budget, to the point of almost being rattled.

3. There were no real missteps by either candidate, but trying to be completely objective here, Hochul came out looking much better. It will be interesting to see how the media calls it.

4. The part I really liked was a "gotcha" question to both candidates about how many (and what kind) of cars they own, and how many houses. Easy to see which one was the top 10-percenter there!

Stay tuned...
