Obama declares Miss. disaster zone

WASHINGTON, May 11 (UPI) -- President Barack Obama declared Mississippi a disaster zone, making the state eligible for federal funds to aid recovery efforts in areas affected by flooding.

Federal funds will be available to augment state and local recovery efforts for individuals hit by flooding since May 3, a White House release said. Assistance includes grant money for temporary housing and home repairs, low-cost loans to cover uninsured property losses, and other programs to help individuals and business owners recover from the impact of the disaster.

Obama Tuesday declared parts of Tennessee a federal disaster zone as the Mississippi River crested in Memphis.

Some of the talking heads are bitchin' about President Obama not signing a declaration for Texas (that Gov Perry has requested) due to all the wildfires, but I read the other day that it is because Texas is already getting tons of other federal relief aid from other disaster programs - so take what the republican talking heads have to say with a grain of salt.
