5. Over the long term, Sotomayor and Kagan will likely be the biggest impact.
Edited on Fri May-06-11 10:19 PM by tekisui
I have been impressed and pleased with what Sotomayor has written from the bench so far. I don't know Kagan yet.

ETA: But, I actually voted for ending defense of DOMA. That coupled with the DoJ's decision to exercise discretion in not deporting a man's male spouse from NJ, when their marriage occurred in Connecticut. We have turned a corner. The pace is frustrating, but we are going in the right direction on this.

7. As ideas, stimulus and financial and regulatory reform.
Edited on Fri May-06-11 10:30 PM by mmonk
The problem lies in the fact the stimulus was not large enough or targeted correctly (too much in tax cuts for instance). Also, we still aren't regulating what we should in the financial sector so it will happen again.

We have too far to go to right the ship and impossible barriers such as the corporate control of the political system and elections. Finally, we have one of the most uninformed populations as well as propagandized populations in the world. I'm not the least bit optimistic about the future. I dream of leaving for somewhere else constantly but since everything is interconnected economically, real escape seems impossible. We are in a self induced dark ages.

10. Obama's best decision was his appointment of Elizabeth Warren.
His second best was his appointment of Panetta to the CIA and then come his Supreme Court appointments.

He probably could have chosen better with regard to the Supreme Court, but his appointments might not have been approved.
