WTF? Judy Miller: Assange Is A "Bad Journalist" Because He 'Did NOT VERIFY Info'!!!
Edited on Sun Jan-02-11 12:03 PM by kpete
Judith Miller (now "Judy" for Fox News) makes a crack about Wikileaks' Julian Assange being a "bad journalist" because --wait for it--
http://twitter.com/ArrestKRoveNow/status/21354913204277248

JUDITH MILLER:... because he didn't care at all about attempting to verify the information that he was putting out or determine whether or not it would hurt anyone.

That's very interesting coming from Miller, an instrumental component in taking us into the Iraq War, and the subsequent deaths of tens, perhaps hundreds of thousands of Iraqis and 4430 American troops.

......................

Miller would later say about her role:

"My job isn't to assess the government's information and be an independent intelligence analyst myself. My job is to tell readers of The New York Times what the government thought about Iraq's arsenal." Some have criticized this position, believing that a crucial function of a journalist is independently to assess information, to question sources, and to analyze information before reporting it.

Milller's subsequent fall from grace since has taken her to Fox News, and now down to the murky depths of NewsMax, according to Dave Weigel at Slate.

The New York Times reporter who quit the paper in 2005 -- a casualty of the Valerie Plame scandal and a target of attacks on her pre-war reporting about Iraq's weapons programs -- has a job in print journalism again. She's a contributing writer at Newsmax, the conservative web and print venture founded in 1998 by Christopher Ruddy and built into a multi-million dollar company. (Miller is on contract, not a full-time staffer, so she's continuing the Fox gigs etc.)

1. Ironically, it's Judy who didn't verify - that Assange didn't attempt to verify.
He did.

Epic. Fail.

3. Uh Judith, does the name "Curveball" sound familiar?
"We're talking about the woman who offered a direct and steady pipeline to the front page of the New York Times for the hallucinatory lies of Ahmed Chalabi and some joker called 'Curveball' about the existence of WMDs"

9. Journalism does require verification and not just posting what someone gives you

regardless of Miller saying it - the truth stands. Assange manages a web site - its yet to see if he is a journalist

10. I was going to say once again journalism imitates the Onion
But then I realized that it was Newsmax we were talking about here, not journalism.

My bad, almost.

"You went into jail in the summer. It is fall now. You will have stories to cover -- Iraqi elections and suicide bombers, biological threats and the Iranian nuclear program. Out west, where you vacation, the aspens will already be turning. They turn in clusters, because their roots connect them. Come back to work -- to life."

14. Was it worth selling your credibility, Judy?
Loyalty to BushCo* is all one-sided, and now you can't get a real job.

Time for a tell-all book deal. Expose Kkkarl Rove and the rest for what they are, and you might even make a little coin off the deal - if anyone will buy a book with your name on it.

16. Well, that ought to add to Julian Assange's credits.
'You can tell as much about a person by the enemies they make as by their friends'.

Assange really does owe a huge thank you to people like this:

Rep. King of NY: (hunt him down etc. etc.)

Sarah Palin: (He should be hunted down like Osama Bin Forgotten. I have to say if we did that, Assange could relax with not much to worry about, but Sarah is not generally known for critically thinking)

Huckabee: (He should be assassinated. Does this have anything to do with his religious beliefs?}

And now, Judith Miller a totally discredited 'journalist' who was one of the Rendon Group's favorite 'conduits' at the NYT for PR for the War in Iraq, another 'endorsement' for Assange.

Not to mention the myriad of rightwing crazies calling for execution etc. If Assange had paid for a PR campaign, he couldn't asked for a better one than to have these loons be the ones condemning Wikileaks.

The tragedy of Judith Miller is that for so very long she was regarded as one of the most credible journalists in this country. I remember reading and hearing her opinions on Osama Bin Laden BEFORE 9/11 which is why I knew who he was. I had no reason to question her then, but there was always a nagging question as to how, if we knew who he was and where he was, why was nothing being done about him?

Looking back, I guess I was fooled by here pre-9/11 but not for long after that.
