2. Why should the government do something that Wikileaks is perfect for?

Folks will get their "proof",
Wikileaks will get its credit due,
and the government will have clean hands
in not having done a crass a la Bush decision
that in the end would settle nothing. :shrug:

3. I don't follow this line of reasoning. The US government will release...

...documentary evidence of their raid on the bin Laden compound, including some form of evidence that they killed bin Laden and had his body in their possession for some period of time.

4. It's the difference between those who choose to believe the evidence

that obviously more than enough people have already seen,
and those folks who need to see it themselves to believe anything,
and those who still won't believe anything, even moreso, if they see it.

These photographs have not even been shown to Senators or House members. Lieberman, et al., hasn't even seen them. In other words, they are locked up tight. They are not diplomatic cables that 3 million people have access to the database of.

When they come out, it's because the Administration will have decided that it is politically-expedient to do so. WikiLeaks will not be breaking this particular story.

I would also like to mention that his burial at sea and other, more-generally consumable video and pictures is still likely to be released in some form.

"leaked" one way or another, but I'd prefer it not be from the WH. It would be spun as caving or charges that they stalled for time in order to doctor them. Or some other criticism.
