I really thought it was most likely he was killed in Tora Bora, and that the subsequent, well-timed release of tapes was something ginned up to keep the wounds open, either by the CIA or by elements within the CIA (and I'm still not convinced they weren't). I'm still looking for an explanation of the 'fat Osama'.
