The President is one thing. Yes, he should be serious and professional.

Presuming to tell everyone else how they should feel about and behave concerning our current greatest enemy meeting his untimely demise is asinine. Sorry, I had to say it. I feel completely fine if people laugh, cry, shout, jump, run, sigh, cheer, sit down, lay down, march, or any other variation. There is no "Right" way to act on this news. Even if there were a singular way we should all feel about it (and there isnt), sometimes people cry with happiness, or laugh to try to shake away strong feelings of sadness or anger or fear with which they are having trouble dealing.

6. There are profound taboos against celebrating the loss of life
that cut across all kinds of cultures.

You know in parts of Mexico, you don't say "that dead guy" because it's too disrespectful? You use the diminutive as an endearment, "that little dead guy".

3. Voice of Sanity over here.
When something like this happens, there's always a freelance Shame Squad ready to ride their High Horses through the message boards to tell us how deeply, deeply ashamed they are of all of us.

Everyone's entitled to their own feelings.

8. True. People have to be free to express themselves.

9. Precisely
That said, people are free to find some of those "expressions" not to their liking and they should also be free to "express" their opinions of those "expressions". Can we support this freedom for some without supporting freedom for all?

I for one am happy that OBL is out of business, but I find the celebrations more appropriate to a hockey playoff and frankly to be childish grave dancing of which the images I suspect will not serve us well in the long term.

Yet those who choose to do so are certainly free to "express" themselves in that manner, just as I am free to be repulsed by their doing so.

I suspect there are those with differing opinions and they are certainly free to both have them and to express them, I would hope they do so respectfully, but how they do so is of course their choice.
