1. Good morning, DU. Finding it interesting that no one took
me up on my jaunt down Memory Lane to take a look at our history of looking for Bin Laden.

3. Look, Hannah, I 've been around here a good number of years more than you
and I remember much bandwidth used on "where is Osama" and "why haven't we got him" discussions. I did a search yesterday after observing that more than a few had developed a bit of amnesia about the importance of finding the man.

Now if you need to have instructions on how to use a link to look at a history of discussions on DU regarding the subject, you place the cursor on the blue letters and click the left mouse button.

12. Your moral compass is spinning.
My tenure has to do with a memory of long term discussions on these boards about capturing and, yes, killing this man. I think it helps to revisit for consistency's sake.

7. It wasn't a real debate.
It was a bumper sticker.

EOM.

No one considered the consequences of actually doing it, in a reasoned way.

6. Note the tombstones.
I counted 3 in the first page of results.

Interestingly, I recognized a lot of nicknames that are showing up today.

Point well made, though I don't know if it'd be classified as a calling out post.

13. Not intended as a calling out post, but is intended to
show that DU has been all over the place on the topic of bin Laden. So, yesterday, when a huge name calling and finger pointing session broke out, I went back to see exactly how consistent we were in our moral certitude over the years out of curiosity and thought I would share my search because it was interesting.

14. Usually such statements are just derisive soundbytes.
People didn't care one way or another about the issue. That's why there are so many tombstones (I expect even more as you go back in time). Just because people who are soundbyte only are typically not going to last a long time here, which is to me a good thing. Do the search again in 10 years about "Osama really dead?" and you'll see a continuation of the phenomenon.

17. You are probably right on that point. I just think it doesn't hurt
to look at thought or opinion over time.

BTW, did the OP you were betting on in your reply below materialize?

8. All that proves...
is that DU is made of many people who are infinitely flexible in terms of their positions on moral issues --that they will take whatever cause du jour and use it to attack Republicans and promote Democrats WITH NO CONNECTION TO A SET OF VALUES.

It has been proven time and time again since Obama gained office.

Without a moral compass, people will be led around by the nose forever by the good cop/bad cop schtick and by the desire for their PARTY (read "team") to win.

15. I used to post WHERE IS OSAMA? everywhere during election cycles to piss off the freeps.
It worked everytime.

And yes, I wanted us to get him.
