1. Big demand for bin Laden news jams Newseum site

When big news breaks, newspapers are a hot commodity despite the immediacy of online news.

The website for the Newseum, a museum in Washington devoted to journalism, was inaccessible for many visitors Monday. The site, which posts digital replicas of newspapers' front pages, was jammed as thousands of people flocked to see how newspapers around the world handled coverage of Osama bin Laden's death.

Paul Sparrow, senior vice president of broadcasting at the Newseum, said the museum often sees demand for newspapers' front pages spike when there are big stories in sports, entertainment or politics.

The site was processing more than 2,800 requests per second when it crashed, he said. Traffic started to peak at 3 a.m. Eastern time when Europeans woke to the news. It grew again at about 6 a.m.

3. I bought a few copies of the LA Times, Washington Post, NY Times and USA Today
this morning. Gonna wrap 'em up as a time capsule present for the kids this Christmas. It's a BIG News Day. Someday they might really like to see these. I did it the morning after Barack Obama's Election Night, and collected a bunch of other keepsakes from the campaign (including some from Hillary's campaign) for Christmas '08. They liked that.

5. Yeah - they liked it. But not as much as they WILL.
I packed two full sets, including the Election morning-after issues, including some of the international papers, and the Times and Newsweeks and special editions of various magazines, and of course campaign bumper stickers and buttons. Fun! Keepsakes someday when they have kids. The main thing is: if you're stockpiling these things earlier in the year, you have to remember where you hide them!!!!!
