They should have done an extensive autopsy and released the records into the public, including detailed photographs. Then dump him into the ocean.

They wanted to prevent "creating a shrine for terrorists". Instead they created a shrine for conspiracy theorists.

1. I've been inundated with conspiracy theories for the past two months.
Another one won't hurt. They did the right thing, following Islamic tradition when his body was not accepted by his home country.

3. We don't know what evidence the government will release...

We do know Obama saw photos of him and DNA testing was done.

Bottom line, though: There will always be conspiracy theories, regardless of what happens.

The fact no one in that region, specifically Al Qaeda, has come forward saying bin Laden is still alive, tells me he's dead.

7. They did so, admirably, I might add.
They had to dig for that exception when no one would take the body. Oh woe is the US if they didn't follow tradition. :hi:

8. Are you both being critical that they took pains not to incite...?
By merely being respectful of Islam practices with respect to the body, I think we will have won a tiny bit of good will among Islamic world, in general. Not his minions, certainly, but those with whom we need to forge a more peaceful future throughout the Middle East.

I just don't get the seeming sarcasm on this score.

6. Look how the same Pentagon treated Pat Tillman.
No reason to believe bin Laden would be handled better, imo.

11. No matter what was done, there will be people who
won't believe it...even if they put the body out for public display and let people poke and prod and touch it themselves.

Better a shrine for conspiracy theorists than a shrine for terrorists, imo.

12. I'm sure they have photos.
If they took the trouble to recover his body I'm sure they would document his death in detail for all the non-believers.
