bin Laden Buried at Sea U.S. Decides
Edited on Mon May-02-11 04:47 AM by autorank
Denver Post, May 2, 2011 (AP)

"WASHINGTON—A U.S. official says Osama bin Laden has been buried at sea."

The official said that "Islamic practice and tradition" called for "the body to be buried within 24 hours."

"The official, who spoke Monday on condition of anonymity to discuss sensitive national security matters, did not immediately say where that occurred."

There will be no further forensic examination. The genetic testing announced will be the final word.

4. Why are we so concerned about Islamic tradition when it comes to Bin Laden?
We seem to have no problem dropping bombs on Islamic countries like Libya, Pakistan, Afghanistan and Iraq. But when it comes to Bin Laden, somebody who supposedly killed 3,000 Americans, we suddenly have to treat his body in accordance with Islamic law? :wtf:

23. Security, that's why.
The possibility of retaliation is already high. There's no need to increase it by dragging the body around or doing...something...to it.

24. Because it would have pissed off a large # of Muslims, that's why
Even villains deserve a proper, respectful burial.

Unless you've forgotten, there was outrage across the Muslim world for the way Uday and Kusay Hussein's bodies were treated - as photo ops and a ghoulish trophy display.

AND it's a way to demonstrate that the wars are NOT against Muslims, but rather extremists.

11. In olden times
There were two bandits that cleaned up in California in the 1850s. Joaquin Murrieta and Three Fingered Jack were feared from one end of the state to the other. California State Rangers captured the two and they were executed. The residents doubted the reports. So, the Rangers cut off Three Fingered Jack's hand and Murrieta's head, pickled them and toured the state, showing them to the common folk. Apparently this worked to allay their fears. There's a question as to the provenance of the head. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joaquin_Murrieta

Wonder if videos would do it?

This is bullshit. I don't generally believe governments, they lie far too often.

They should have brought the body back and let the dogs eat it in Times Square. They damn well better have pictures/video/DNA.

Oh. How would we have a DNA sample to match it to????

Even in the military world, if the story is big enough, whether it's Pat Tilman or the guys who raised the flag over Iwo Jima, the truth will come out.

They'll give interviews eventually.

41. Well, the Bin Laden family is besties with the Bush family
Remember how they were the only people to fly out of the USA on 9-11?

Maybe Dubya swabbed the cheeks one of the Bin Laden siblings when they were passed out drunk at the Crawford ranch. Of course, I might be speculating. :)

25. For some reason, I'm having trouble with this 'at sea' story.
After all bin Laden did to us, we now have to respect the religious laws of this evil man?

Lets see the paperwork and forensic information. Did the forensic expert find ice crystals? Naw, I'm not a conspiracy nut, I just don't believe much any more, especially when it comes from Washington--or should I say, The Pentagon?

Interesting to see how this develops.

They WILL try to retaliate, no doubt about it.

Maybe, just maybe, however, they'll stop and think before they do, that even if it takes ten years, we MIGHT just hunt them down and bust a cap ...

they took the high road and were respectful not for Bin Laden but for the spiritual principles and because it is proper to do the right thing regardless of the other person.

38. Treat him like a criminal
Haul the body in, let forensic specialists see it, examine it, and give people the unquestioned truth that he's dead. imho, it is more important to respect the American people by assuring them of the truth of this death than it is to avoid creating a shrine.

I do have an idea on how to properly respect the spiritual principles of Islam. Get out of Iraq and Afghanistan and stop killing and injuring Muslims. That would be one heck of a statement.

36. What country would accept his remains for burial?
Plus factoring in this Muslim guideline, burial at sea was most appropriate:

624. If it is feared that an enemy may dig up the grave and exhume the dead body and amputate its ears or nose or other limbs, it should be lowered into sea ...
