but I suppose making light of the use of the phrase is considered ascribing a particular motive on the part of the person using it?

I've seen numerous members on the receiving end of some of the nastiest comments, (while supporting fellow Democrats, no less) yet laughing at a long-standing freeperism will no longer be tolerated?

While I understand your point, I hope you consider the larger point that accounts for the title of my OP/question.
