I hope that my comment will be considered, despite the fact that I read often but rarely post.
Skinner, I believe that you, like myself and many DUers, thought highly of Ms. Thomas for many years and greatly appreciated the way she served this country by asking the questions no one else would ask. And I think that you were probably, as I was, tremendously hurt by her recent remarks. And I know it is frustrating to see some of the awful things said in defense of Thomas's indefensible statements (as you say

When a progressive does something regrettable or embarrassing to progressives who have previously stood by her, let's not disappear it down the memory hole or leave it to right-wing sites to gloat over. Let's take the high road and show that we can withstand open discussion. And besides, if leaving Helen Thomas threads open allows some posters' previously closeted antisemitism to come to light, all the better.
