Amazing scenes from Iran

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lM-EOsorjGY&feature=player_embedded

Andrew Sullivan is virtually love-blogging this amazing developments, and adds this observation:

And note how critical it is that Obama's reticence removes from Ahmadinejad this convenient weapon of demonizing the protests as pawns of the Great Satan. The neoconservatives still seem to think this struggle is all about them. But in fact, it is all about the Iranian people's utter independence of them and us and anyone but themselves.

And that's what makes this so powerful.

1. I would hate to find out that you're wrong, and this whole thing has been engineered to justify yet
another intervention and optional war. We are being pushed in that direction. "Last rogue superpower", that we are.

I'm afraid a war with Iran would be the last war for us for a while.

2. I thought that Joe Lieberman said this morning we need to go to war with...
Yemen?
Jeez- all these wars in all these countries.

Afghanistan - check
Iraq - check
Yemen - TBD
Iran - TBD
Pakistan - TBD

Sometimes I feel like I can't keep track of them all!

:sarcasm:

4. Look at a map, and read "The Prize." That's what this about, on the surface, anyway.
The fact is, the U.S. no longer has the resources to militarily defeat and occupy Iran. The Saudis would have us nuked, if we tried it with them.

5. Yep. That's my fear as well.
The Iranian people obviously deserve/want better. But that doesn't insulate them from being used.

6. White House condemns "unjust" actions in Iran
WASHINGTON, Dec 27 (Reuters) - The White House on Sunday condemned what it called the "unjust suppression" of civilians by the Iranian government and said the United States was on the side of protesters.

"Hope and history are on the side of those who peacefully seek their universal rights, and so is the United States," White House National Security Council spokesman Mike Hammer said in a statement.

8. The WH publicly taking sides is NOT going to help the Iranian opposition.
This is not the smart or the right thing to do. Will increase the repression.
