AZ-Sen: This Is Bad News! For John McCain!
Rasmussen (11/18, likely voters):

John McCain (R-inc): 45
J.D. Hayworth (R): 43
Chris Simcox (R): 4
Some other: 2
Not sure: 7
(MoE: ±4%)

The good news! for John McCain is that ex-Rep. and current right-wing talk show host J.D. Hayworth hasn't made any moves toward running in a GOP primary. Hayworth has been rumored to be interested, but that may simply a way for Hayworth to yank McCain's chain. Former Minutemen leader Chris Simcox is definitely running, but this poll indicates he doesn't pose much of a threat. PPP -- the only other pollster to look at the GOP primary field so far -- found McCain leading Simcox by a closer 61-17 in September, so it looks like there's a hardcore base of anti-McCain votes who prefer Hayworth but would still go for the even more extreme Simcox. (PPP didn't test Hayworth.)

The bad news! for McCain is that Hayworth may see these numbers, see the general anti-incumbent, anti-establishment climate on the right, see the organizational pieces falling into place (Club for Growth, Freedom Works, etc.), see little Democratic general election opposition (up-and-coming Tucson city councilor Rodney Glassman is the only Dem in the race), see lingering conservative resentment toward McCain for his occasional bipartisan moments and his incompetent presidential campaign, and think well, why the hell not?

1. Dream scenario: McCain gets a "real conservative" primary opponent,
who gets an endorsement from Sarah. McCain blows his top and the GOP civil war is on!

7. I was hoping we'd seen the Last of ole JD
but McCain is not that well-liked at home anymore.. With JD having his own radio show, he won;t announce until the last possible moment, so he can get all the free "advocacy" airtime he can get...but I think he will run. :(..and he'll beat Mccain.. Mc Cain should just retire & let his rich wife take care of him.. I had hoped that Napolitano would replace him.:(

22. Hello Communist Rule
Put Failin Pailin and some other GOP clod in the white house and say hello to communism because the Chinese will call in the debt owed them which actually doesn't sound like such a bad idea if the alternative were Palin in the WH.. One party communist rule..and they called Obama a commie? HA!

11. Fine idea.
Though I wonder: our local Democratic party could easily knock Johnny Mac out of the Senate. Unfortunately, they don't seem to be aware that there's an election coming up.
Just where and when does the Tucson branch of our party meet? It's past time we started visiting....and making them uncomfortable.

13. He should. The Senate definitely needs more leaders to represent the Hispanic population, and
even more important than that, Grijalva is a die-hard progressive. He would be perfect.

15. I don't really know much about him.
I just want a Dem to win a Senate seat. I was sooo excited when Pederson ran against Kyl, but Pederson ended up being the worst candidate. He waited way too long to go after Kyl, and every time I see that embarassment Kyl on the news I curse Pederson for not being a stronger candidate. "Goddammit Pederson - why didn't you win?" can often be heard from my living room :(
I'm so tired of these Republicans ruining our state.

12. I would rather have McCain than Hayworth! Hayworth is very Beck like.
He's nuts! Not saying that McCain isn't, but out of these two, I'd rather have McCain.
Is there really not one Democrat that is willing to take on McCain? WTF is wrong with this state?

16. Did anyone see Biden on the Daily Show take a jab at Arizona? It was hilarious.
Stewart was asking him about why there is this discrepancy on Recovery.Gov about districts reporting how stimulus dollars were spent when there was no district. Biden made an example out of someone from Arizona that didn't know their own district number and said that they were from district 14. Then Biden said - just what Arizona needs, more Republicans. And then he flashed that famous smile.
Stewart just looked at him like I can't believe you just said that.

So true.

21. He was actually "voted" the dumbest member of Congress...
Twice!, (that I know of, probably every year he was there. I think Congress.org ran polls, he was always last...

I recall on CSPAN once, I saw him speak, and sitting here in NE, I was embarrassed that he was even part of the human race, what a jughead.

18. I can't for the life of me see why McCain would keep running
Granted there are a lot of old fogies in the Senate, so he certainly isn't the oldest, but his health problems have been well documented. The guy doesn't need the money (he has a rich wife and he himself has plenty of money to live on). It's got to be pure greed. I was sure that the old dilapidated bastard would give up and not run again, but maybe he thinks even given his bad loss in 2008 he'll still breeze through the election.
