Jane Norton, GOP Senate Candidate, Sits Silently As Obama Called A Muslim
Former Colorado lieutenant governor Jane Norton, one of the five candidates competing in the Republican primary for the state's 2010 Senate race, is distinguishing herself with her full-hearted embrace of the tea party crowd.

Appearing at a recent coffee-shop event with Colorado voters, Norton sat silently while a female attendee declared twice that President Barack Obama is a Muslim and while a male attendee insisted that the president -- who he deemed "an idiot" -- wanted to let babies die on the side of the road "with the garbage."

"Well as you can tell there is a lot of passion around what is happening in our own country," Norton responded to the crowd, rather than correcting either individual. "And how we can channel that into positive constructive ways that will get our vote out it is going to be absolutely critical."

Also at the event, Norton praised the "tea-party movement and the 9/12 groups" for pushing a right-wing populist, anti-Washington agenda. The Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee highlighted that exchange in a video it sent to reporters on Monday.

1. But, but, but he is a Muslim and he eats babies for breakfast.
Did you hear the woman speaking toward the middle about abortion. The guy says that Obama wants us to pay for abortions now and the woman say, "Oh but we are already. I heard we already are." I bet she did hear that from the crazy voices in her head. NUTS!

5. What is wrong with being called a Muslim?
I'm not getting why this is an epithet. It's like getting called a Jew--I don't see how this is something to be condemned.

18. Does it even matter if he is a Christian or whatever else?
Edited on Fri Dec-25-09 02:04 AM by Garam_Masala
It matters little to me what his religion is. Only his policies matter.

I also said, based on his attendance for 20 years at a christian church
I am inclined to believe he is one. But I tend to keep an open mind.

8. Do we live in the same country?
The country i live in wrongfully thinks Muslim=terrorism. Its the negative connotation that those who referring to him as a Muslim believe.

21. and the answer should be there is nothing wrong being a Muslim, even if he is not one.
There is something bothering when you see the left acknowledge the insult, but not notice that it is a double insult: to Obama and to Muslims throughout the world.

I fear that the money behind Bennet will get him the nomination and we'll be faced with the choice of a wall street stooge or a crazy rw whackjob like Norton.

11. This whole
is Obama a Christian or a (secret) Muslim is whack-a-doodle.

I don't give a rat's ass my self, but the man has stated innumerable times that he is a Christian. That all that is required. There is no secret oath, or test, or special proof needed. If a person declares they are a adherent to Christianity that's the end of the story.

(If a person were a member of a particular religious branch or sect they may need to follow some ritual initiation process, but to just proclaim that one is a Christian is sufficient.)

As a life long atheist, I find this to be strange ado about nothing, but I know for many people it's a huge deal.

20. I wished the article had focused on the real insults proferred by the crowd.
While I know that the woman was trying to insult Obama by calling him a Muslim, it is not an insult. Of course, it is not true, but calling him an idiot and saying he " wanted to let babies die on the side of the road "with the garbage" is an insult and there is no way she should have stayed silent on tat.

24. "anti-Washington agenda"
It never ceases to amaze me how eager these anti-government people are to get into the government. It's as if they are saying "elect me and I'll totally mess it up to prove that it doesn't work". Then when they mess everything up, they'll say see we were right. Great freakin' platform.
